So I was going to pop in here and debunk the coin toss tests. But I see that others have done that thoroughly.
Now... I feel the need to point out, on the other hand, that the fact that although the coin toss prediction test didn't mean much, that has nothing to do with whether you're an empath. You just happened to throw out a technical inaccuracy into a group that apparently contains a lot of good mathematicians. 😅
Sometimes people are just delusional
I'm an empath .. no actually I'm just good at observing human patterns of behavior. Not magic just science
I have come to believe that Empaths are adults who, as children, had to externalize their senses because of their chaotic environment, learning to gauge the emotions and potentials for violence or cruelty in the adults around them. Just MY OPINION... However, in interacting with people who claim this empathic ability, I've found that they lack a solid sense of Self-Value, and constantly have to scan their environment for clues as to what to do and for whom to be. They lack an internal locus of control, and seek to find those who will validate them, protect them, or hand them a sense of value FROM THE OUTSIDE... Which causes them to serve as PERFECT VICTIMS to Narcissistic Personalities... Because Empaths have abandoned their own "head," they bow before those who are totally willing (Narcissists) to serve as the Directors of their own energy. Until they take their power back, that is...
I feel compassion for those who claim to be Empaths, because I am instantly clued in to their having abandoned their own sense of Self-Guidance, Self-Validation, and they need the feedback of others to feel present. No one has to agree with me---it's just what I, personally, have repeatedly observed in those who claim Empath status..
The push back is interesting.
@Janelle19 what would you say to people who think you are delusional like pmvines, and that you can observe emotions like the average person
Empathy and physical touch can go hand in hand, as being in tune with someone else's emotions can create a sense of trust and emotional safety. During platonic cuddling, it might help you adjust to the other person's needs—whether they need comfort, connection, or to feel grounded.
As for developing your empathic abilities further, mindfulness and meditation might help you focus on the emotions you pick up from others. Journaling can also help you identify patterns that amplify your sensitivity. If you’re into the science side of things, exploring how emotional mirroring and body language play into empathy might provide insight.
Learning empathetic verbal skills can enhance a person's ability even for people who don't come by it naturally.
As for the connection between ESP and empathy, there’s some crossover in terms of heightened perception. While being empathic tends to be more emotional and relational, your sensitivity might be a part of a bigger ability to perceive subtle cues others miss. Trusting your instincts and observing how people respond to you can help strengthen that.
Have you had specific experiences where your abilities deepened a connection with someone? Those moments might give you some clues on how to expand further.
Intuitive is probably the better descriptor for me when it comes to touch. I often (not always) have a knack for knowing what somebody needs. Much less successful in my use of language.
@billiam , it's ok people are welcome to share their opinions and skepticism. This is a public forum and anyone can join. (Except @TxTom of course)
@Mike102 id tell them I turn into a werewolf every blood moon so back off
😂
@Mike102 Of course. I'm not shutting anyone down. I just find it interesting.

So I know I've been kind of MIA here lately.... But only cuz there's lots on my plate LOL (school, work, kids, adulting). But I do stop to read sometimes 😁🤓
I'm definitely an empath, but I think OP was mistakenly making a connection between that and psychic abilities as @donhulio pointed out 😉 Idk what causes it, but from what I've studied, it seems that it occurs much more often for those who are highly sensitive people (HSP) to stimuli. But it's also not magic 🪄🎩
It's basically being able to, not just feel but also experience the emotions/energy/feelings of anyone around me.... regardless of if I want to or not. I have to prepare myself to be around large groups and have coping mechanisms for it as well. It's like how you can't "turn off" the cold temperature outside....you can only try to insulate yourself against it and take breaks inside to have hot cocoa and warm up 🧤🧣☕
Experiencing everyone's energy/emotions constantly takes a lot of my own energy to do. Even if it's positive, because it's not something I'm choosing to experience but my body/brain/nervous system still has to process it in addition to my own. ☺️
Buuuuuuuut, being able to understand it and adjust my life to respect it, has helped me to not always be feeling overstimulated and also to stay away from people who seem to take advantage ....like those with narcissistic behaviors 😁
I am also able to share my own positive and calming energy with others ....and I love being able to help people around me however I can! 🌈 I just have to be able to take time alone sometimes to recharge.
Being an empath is probably why being a cuddler is so suited to me 🤗 and also why going to school to become a therapist also works for me! 😁🦊
@Janelle19
id tell them I turn into a werewolf every blood moon so back off
Is this supposed to be a positive or a negative?
On a hot summer night, would you offer your throat to the wolf with the red roses?
I’m more empathetic to animals than people. But I do pick up on people if they aren’t too shielded. The problem is when I’m working on someone with chaotic energy. That’s when if I’m not careful I can become emotionally drained.
I had a friend in college who had strong empathy. I have super strong masking, or at least, I feel like I do. Whenever I was truly sad or upset, she would be the only one to pick up on it. I know she was the only one because she would ask about it and the group I was with would always look surprised afterward. I would always ask how she knew...
For those who feel they are credibly an empath, as opposed to having hunches that turned out to be true, the odds that you are also a negative blood type is quite high. The relationship between the two has been studied for many decades.
Being an empath definitely cuts both ways. In my childhood I needed to toughen up to not be attractive to narcissists, but I have that pretty much down now. Being able to feel things powerfully is a real gift when you have it under control.
Can't say most people like to be understood. Who wants to the world to know you're a hot mess?
