What Dreams May Come

I had a very strange dream last night.

I was staying at some house close to the ocean; I think it must have been for a vacation. This house had a long multi-story deck that wrapped around the building and at one side streched out towards the ocean and at another side went down to the driveway (using several stairs).

At some point in the dream, a storm started to approach. I was coming up from the driveway and I noticed the waves were starting to get high. Each wave crested higher and higher. It was starting to overtake the lower deck. I got up to the higher deck but the waves continued to get higher.

I got to the house and a wave crested about halfway up the house. I turned around and held on to a post on the deck until the wave died down. I went to sprint inside the house when i saw the next wave greatly overtaking the house. I got swept clear off the deck and was under water. I'm pretty sure I drowned in that dream.

It would have been more dramatic waking up, except I tend to die alot in my dreams;. I have gotten used it, strangely enough. Got any strange dreams that you remember (new or old)?

  • (That was a good movie, though.)

  • All I usually have is half-remembered glimpses which come up unexpectedly like a flash of deja vu. I try to remember more, and get a few more moments but not enough to remember the entire story. But the emotional flavor of the dream is strong in those few images.

Except for nightmares. They stay with me for decades.

  • I had a very strong dream/vision that I walked in on my own viewing before my funeral and someone said he was only X numbers of age. So I know at what age I’m going to die. I’m ok with it and I have already started working on my bucket list

  • There's one I just remembered, and I think I remember it fairly well. Possibly because I wrote a poem about it.

    A rainbow eye opens above
    The clearing in the woods
And closes again, with things to tell
    The vision has begun
Bright white moon and blood red moons
By one and two shall rise
    An omen that eludes you
Though your soul does shiver and cry
    Turn and see
    A shining comet, darkened blue
Rainbow tail as it falls, and now
    Turn and see
    A shining comet, darkened green
Rainbow tail as it falls, you see
His agonized face, decrying the fate
Your eyes cast for meaning which is not found
    But now turn and see
    A portal to Hell
    The hideous light
    The demon sound
His fists, pounding on the ground
    You do not understand

(side note, I was a woman in this dream, even though it was long pre-transition)

  • I once had a dream I was eating a giant marshmallow and when I woke up my pillow was gone

  • ok so to slightly derail the thread but not too much: This happened to me again recently and I wonder if others have also experienced a dream within a dream. Don't laugh, its real. you wake up from a dream into another dream not realizing you are still dreaming, until you wake up again.

@Sooson I absolutely have experienced this. The most memorable one I had I think the dreams were three or four layers deep (no joke). It was very disorienting when I finally did wake up for real.

  • Also, I recognize certain rules that my dreams have:

    • if there is a plane, it will crash somewhere unless i am in said plane.
    • if I am driving, at some point I'll be driving from the back seat and somehow have to figure out how to get in the front seat without stopping.
    • if i am driving over a bridge, the car will always crash into the sea below.
    • if there is a tornado, it will always turn and send me flying.
    • if I recognize it as a dream, I have about 2 minutes (dreamtime ... i assume) before it ends.
  • I have lucid dreams. I can wake up go to the bathroom all that and fall asleep a still have the same dream. Kinda annoying cuz man just give me a new sleep movie

  • Recently I was so exhausted I think I slept for a total of about 16 hours (my normal is 6). I got up several times to get food, use the bathroom, etc. And throughout all that was a dream that kept continuing after each interruption. Sadly, it didn't get to the end of the story. And I don't recall what it was about.

  • I also sometimes have cinematic dreams. At the end of one them, the credits rolled and we all walked out of the theater. Outside there were was something that seemed related to the movie/dream.

And I've had dreams where I knew my lines, but people reacted strangely to them. And a dream where there were two main characters, a man and a woman, and I was both of them at once.

  • if I am driving, at some point I'll be driving from the back seat and somehow have to figure out how to get in the front seat without stopping.

Wow @GuyverGordon this has been a recurring element in my dreams lately. I didn't know if it was just a me thing until you mentioned it.

  • I've had many dreams where I'm so weak I can barely move myself but I have to.

I've carried a memory with me of a nightmare I had when I was very young. I had to show Beetlejuice something like a science project, he wasn't impressed with my ants in a jar, so he inhaled me whole. Inside his lungs or whatever such compartment in his body was a little girl about my age. I asked her where she got her ball from and that was about the end of it. Oldest dream I remember in my lifetime.

  • I dream that im sleeping. Does that mean im not dreaming?

  • I forgot a rule: Brakes take twice as much effort to stop a car, if they work at all.

  • if I am driving, at some point I'll be driving from the back seat and somehow have to figure out how to get in the front seat without stopping.

There are more than 3 of us-I'm sure.

Carl Jung belivied in a collective unconcious-where our Psyches are all connected at some level all the way back to our ancestors.

Jung has a fascinating work on Dream Analysis and Marie-Louise von Franz also has a great book worth reading.

    Here are a few others.

**Can't walk or run- moving in super slow motion when you need to get away from a train or car or some other danger.

Up too high somewhere and can't find a way down.**

_Shipwrecked on a deserted Island with Brooke Shields- My bad- I got carried away_ I don't want any one else to be there no matter what Carl Jung may say.

  • @BrianOcean Your "can't walk or run" sounds similar to my so weak can barely crawl dreams.
