Distance is Poor

Anyone else wish CC would change the way it judges distance. It seems to only go by the closet border between two cities, this literally can be a difference of 20 minutes to a 1hour and 10 minute drive for me. I now usually have to start the conversation with certain cities on can I get more detail on your location. In my head I am thinking god this sounds creepy.

  • I don't think there's really any other way to do it since you're not mapping out specific location within the town

  • I think it's the center of the city at least that's what it seems to me. And if they don't list a city it seems to either be center of the state or the capital city. Well at least in my state it's the same.

Yeah, it's not ideal. Live with it, that kind of thing doesn't get fixed - this little site just hasn't got the resources. The reality is that you have to search a little bit bigger than you really want, and do the last bit manually.

When you find yourself asking a perfectly innocent, sensible, genuine question that could be interpreted as creepy, I always include some information about myself and why I'm asking. Sometimes the question can be phrased in a way that encourages an answer which is suitably detailed for your purposes, but discourages detail.

"I live in north London. The site's distance algorithm isn't all it might be, so just thinking about logistics, whereabouts are you?"

  • It would certainly be an interesting thing to know. My general understanding is that it would be the center of the city. If this site is using Google as it's coordination source, I think it would be using the center of a city as the origin.

  • It is weird. If I search for Pros it will list the closest first. If I search for enthusiasts it's all over the place and someone close will be listed 50 pages into the search. It is what it is.

So this one never really ascended to the level of importance or interest enough for me to actually create an OP, but since we’re here I live on the Westside of LA but everyone in Los Angeles always shows as 14 miles away. EXACTLY 14.

(Or maybe it’s that all of the cuddlers in LA live in the exact same apartment building)!

  • @robroo i believe when you search and have a distance set it sorts by who was last active within that range. I believe you can change that setting but i use more recent because you can be looking at someone that hasn't been on in 5 years.
