Gov’t Shutdown

If the gov’t shuts down tomorrow at COB, it is not going to be fun. I genuinely don’t understand how we have been doing these 3-month continuing resolutions for so long without an actual budget passed…we’re talking more than 2 decades for those who might not know. The last year when a CR wasn’t needed was in 1997…

Just a random rant for the day.

  • I think both sides conspired so they can get themselves a long holiday vacation.

  • Shut it down.

    Shut it all down.

  • Um #1, isn't this a political thread?

and #B, yeah, shut it down and see what's actually essential.

  • @Sooson: I mean, I wouldn’t doubt that. Just sucks for those of us who work for (and rely on our paychecks) in some gov’t capacity. I will need to step up my cuddle schedule. 😂

Also, I was slightly incorrect for the timeframe. Some CRs were as little as a day, while others have been a year.

  • @Jubal: I didn’t mean it as political. Just as a “no pay is going to be rough kinda thing if it happens…” I’ve been in long enough to see a couple of these happen, and it genuinely just sucks.

  • @CuddlesComfort8 It is definitely a political thread. Half the people will have one answer, the other half will have an opposite answer.

  • @CuddlesComfort8 well, for whatever it's worth, I do feel badly for the individual government employees who have to go without their paychecks when these things happen (y'all do end up getting the back pay once normal operations resume, right?)

But on a big picture level, it doesn't hurt my feelings if government has to be pared back to it's bare essential functions. But then, I read novels like "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" and agree with the ideas in such stories.

Air traffic controllers, active duty Guard and reservists and federal law enforcement would all have to work without pay. Education and training programs for veterans get shut down. No disaster relief for the Carolinas. Sorry, I don't see an upside.
