Autism - Podcast Recommendations?

edited December 2024 in General

Hello all,

I've recently been diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum. Could I ask if anyone has any recommended reading (short articles preferred over lengthy tomes) or podcasts, related to autism and touch/ cuddling or autism and relationships?

By relationships I would mean either friendships or romantic relationships.

Thanks for reading my post.

  • “Oh That’s Just My Autism” is one I hear is very good. I’ve also watched a few episodes of “Love on the spectrum”

  • It’s not strictly about autism, but I cohost a podcast called “You First: The Disability Rights Florida Podcast”. https://disabilityrightsflorida.org/podcast

This may not be exactly what you're looking for, but there's a channel on YouTube hosted by a man with autism. "Midwest Magic Cleaning" is the name, and he narrates videos where he clears out hoarder houses, and talks about various neuro-divergent conditions with kindness, clarity, and understanding. It is a STRICTLY "non-judgment zone" and he has a dry, lame, ridiculous sense of humor---which is always fun to listen to!

In honor of your recent diagnosis, I wish to inform you that "It's not a 'bug'-- it's a FEATURE!" :) When you get the hang of working in your own unique strengths, I believe you will find that your ability to shift focus, to dive deep, or however it presents, will actually work FOR you in today's chaotic, nonsensical world!!! Seriously! :)

"Box? What box? You mean there are people who think inside of a box???" ;)

  • Thank you for the positivity @Homesteader , I feel very grateful on reading that.

  • @Calming_Hugs It's been a while since I've had the mental energy to do any reading. But I am on a neurodivergent discord server where I've learned quite a bit. Sometimes nothing is quite so helpful as seeing the questions that other people ask. And there does seem to be a decent autistic population here, which makes since since one of the traits of autism is "socially awkward".

And if it's not clear, I'm also autistic. Finally learning that has had a significant positive impact on my life, including learning how to stop masking.

Congratulations on the diagnosis! Well done for getting that. Being diagnosed - with anything - is almost always the start of something good, or at least better than before. You may still be fighting your way through the jungle in the dark, but at least now you know what kind of jungle it is.

No shortage of people on the spectrum on this site. I would guess that no more than half have a diagnosis.
