Yin and Yang

  • @GuyverGordon that may be what leads to seemingly heated discussion or actual heated discussion because it's difficult to understand the tone intended. I sometimes find myself being overly concerned with how i say things as to not get a hostile reaction but then again sometimes i don't.

I find a good policy is type, wait 30 seconds, read it over and then decide if you really want to hit "post."

  • @GuyverGordon

What I type may not be what is read.

    Exactly.

I recall this exercise during my very brief stint in computer sales. Although the words are identical in each sentence, the emphasis on a specific word drastically changes the meaning.

I didn't say that he stole the purse.
I didn't say that he stole the purse.
I didn't say that he stole the purse.

  • @pmvines
Thank you. I really appreciate that.

  • @btc13
You make some great points. I forgot about the autism thread and the cancer diagnosis thread. There have been some very respectful threads here. I have to admit I haven't participated in those threads. I just didn't have the emotional bandwidth with all that's going on.

And thanks for the well wishes.

  • @ everyone.... I am brand new here and feel like I just casually poked my head in saying hi and actually stumbled on to something going through a transformation. Oops.

@billiam Sidebar: I'm so sorry. I felt so much pain for you. I hurt to think of your experience. I am so glad you see the power of anger. It isn't something to be repressed. All feelings are worthy. How we handle the feelings is where anything goes sideways. I know this as a very angry person myself. 😅

@GuyverGordon I get that. Gifs are nice.

@WriterGF sounds like you are experiencing a bit of a burn out with the forums. I hope this enlightening thread helps.

@CharlesGrove I believe we do have impact on this world. I want to share that feeling through cuddling. I hope that's what this place is.

    @cozysox

    It’s pretty to think so.

  • [Deleted User]WriterGF (deleted user)

@cozysox Not really anything here I didn't already know. Given that the forums tend to be the same 15 people all the time (myself included), you get way past burnout pretty quickly. It's sort of like the old days of watching summer reruns.

  • I usually strictly lurk here, but I am posting to say, I'm glad I'm not the only one :) It looks like I'm much more active on the site than I really am just because I love reading these boards!

  • Highly impressed with the discourse and discussions here. It's great to see deliberate posts that aren't degrading into name calling, attention whoredom, and endless derailments.

@billiam - That's a LOT of things you're going through at once. Reach out for support and please practice self-care.

  • Welcome back @sideon! Many of us really missed you and you are one of the few people that truly enhance the site! It was a pleasure to meet you in person in Denver.

  • Highly impressed with the discourse and discussions here. It's great to see deliberate posts that aren't degrading into name calling, attention whoredom, and endless derailments.

Wait until the middle of page 3. let's see how it looks then.

But seriously, remember that one thread, months ago, when everyone kinda sorta promised to be nice/r. Do you guys think some progress was made since then?

@billiam I think about your topic sometimes. Thank you for posting this. I'm sure I have posted similar comments over the years but here goes:

The forum continues to go up and down, positive and negative etc. Just when things seem calm and pleasant something disruptive happens. The timeouts, name calling, banning, etc ! It goes on for awile. ugh! Not what I am here for.

And just when I am about to give up on the forums ,something good happens. Like @Sideon coming back.🤗

I have referenced it as "forum fatigue" and over the years I usually just deactivate for a bit and let it get thru my system and then come back renewed. I don't know if there is a "cure" for it. Like the common cold I guess, just get some rest, drink lots of water, cover up in blankets, read something else beside the forums, etc etc.

I mentioned on a similiar thread that I have resigned myself that the forum has evolved into a place to vent for the folks that have no other place to do that. And I have no issue with that at all anymore. Now, I use too! I was the peep who would say, "you're wrong! This place is awesome!"

We have a lot of members that find CC challenging and I feel personally I can't change that narrative because it IS true and real for all kinds of people here. We are all having different experiences here. It took me awhile to understand that. I feel some may think I am being sarcastic right now, but I am not at all.

Hope everyone is having a great week and just hang in there as best you can because we don't have a lot of better choices than that sometimes. 🤔

This is bizarre. It's like going to the movies and arguing with someone about the popcorn. Watch the damn movie.

  • Watch the damn movie.

No drama equals boring movie. Try a different analogy.

  • I still remember when I was a kid and my dad took me to a Monday Night Football game between the Bengals and Steelers. It was like 10 degrees or something stupid. I don't remember the game but I do remember the fight that broke out a couple of rows in front of me, where one guy dumped what seemed to be a bucket of beer onto another guy.

So I can see fighting over popcorn being more interesting than the movie.

Come for the cuddles, stay for the conflict. And popcorn.

  • @cozysox and @Sideon
Thank you. It's been a lot but it's also been quite the teacher. My priorities have shifted for the better. And I'm letting go of some things that aren't doing me any good.

  • [Deleted User]MaverickLegend (deleted user)

@billiam unfortunately conflict is a part of life but to see it in a cuddle space is disheartening so stay for the popcorn but only if it’s buttered and salted

  • [Deleted User]CuddleMeister00 (deleted user)
  • @lonelytauros I love salty buttery popcorn🍿 😋 (well reasoned and self-reflective discourse)

  • edited January 2025

Trying out different popcorn munching gifs! 😆🍿

  • @Katota
    That's a very interesting one!

And thanks for the silent hill info. I've seen it a couple of times but it's been a while

  • @billiam i really liked the opening mini essay on yin yang and what you wrote. I found that interesting.
Then again, on the regular, i'm one of those all the way down the rabbit hole meta consciousness nerds.

@cozysox if you ever write that; please send me a ping because i'd read it. i watch youtube videos/essays on this sorts of stuff on the daily. I really enjoy the mental higher consciousness flossing.

I've been mostly lurking and reading things. I don't really post much because I'm a sensitive and emotional person and got caught up when posting in the forums as a new person here. I'm not sure I always vibe with everyone because i have BPD and have a hard time keeping that from obscuring how i read things. I also recognize that's really just my problem, so i don't really post here much.
