Have the boards become less active?

    @Morpheus
FWIW, on Sunday, January 19, 2025 there were 145 post made in the CC forum. This compares to a daily average of 240 posts per day during the last week of May 2024. Granted, this is a very small sample size (just 1 day) but I was counting the post manually this morning while waiting for my ride to a big event.

I realize there are at least 2 people who are prolific posters who are currently in time out but based on how often they posted during the last week of May last year, combined they would only add about 23 more post to yesterday’s total so let’s estimate around 168 posts from yesterday if they were not in time out.

    168 / 240 =0.7
This means the drop in forum posting activity is somewhere around 30% (give or take, again I am dealing with a very small sample size).

However, a 30% drop in forum activity is very consistent with the drop in total CC page views I shared in a since deleted thread. In August 2024, CC had 2 million page views but that number dropped to just 1.4 million (30% drop) as of October 2024 (according to an Internet traffic monitoring website I subscribe to).

The number of CC page views stabilized at 1.4 million in November 2024 (as opposed to continuing to drop) and I have not looked at December’s data yet. So both page views and forum posts appear to be down about 30% over the past few months.

  • I like seeing these stats. Thanks

  • You are welcome. It just kind of quantifies and confirms what many of us suspected from our own observations.

@JohnR1972 do you happen to have the stats of how many times my previous profile pic was flagged before it was removed lol 😂

Gosh I hope this new one is ok lol 😂

  • @MaverickLegend
LOL - no idea on that. That is internal data to CC, I only have external data - page views, demographics of who visits the site (such as age, gender, race), data on what countries people are accessing CC from, and how they accessed CC such as bookmarks, search engines or links from other websites.

@JohnR1972 oh well I was hoping to apologize to the single member or maybe the several or maybe the hundreds 🤷🏻‍♂️😂

It pains me that I might’ve caused grief to someone because of a pic 😭

  • Creepy profile photos don’t attract cuddles imo, even if they are funny to some.
I never understand why some people here use really off-putting pics to attract a cuddler.🤔

@MaverickLegend this new one is definitely an improvement!

  • Quality over quantity.

Just popping in to let y'all know I saw the name of this thread and at first glance I thought it said "Have the broads become less attractive?" And almost died laughing thinking it was the latest trolling shitpost 😂

I don’t know (or want to know) who the current people in timeout are.

But it stands to reason that if they are frequent posters and they are in timeout because they keep stirring the pot, then the total number of posts would be reduced by four or more times the combined number of the posts they wrote.

1 poster makes a controversial statement.
    A 2nd poster disagrees, strongly.
    A 3rd poster agrees with the 1st.
A 4th agrees with the second poster.
A 5th asks people to keep it civil and/or abstain from politics, (pro-bashing, whatever)
A 6th poster shares the popcorn gifs.
A 7th poster makes a joke (to diffuse the situation, or because they don’t like it when the pot-stirrers get all the attention.)
An 8th poster appreciates the popcorn gif.
    A 9th poster laughs at the 7th poster’s joke.

Various others chime in to support positions 1,2, 5, The OP or the opposition is tagged.

    rinse.
    repeat.

  • @MonkeyNeedsAHug
That could very well be. That is why I kept emphasizing I was working with a very small sample size (just 1 day of data).

The 2 people I know who are in timeout (because Netrunner announced their timeouts when he edited their comments that violated CC’s rules) were from “opposite sides” on many issues. However, neither of them are truly unique (they both have others in the forums who agree with them on various issues but who are generally more restrained in their posts).

I just found it interesting that the observed decrease in forum activity corresponded so closely with the measured decrease in page views.

  • Discussion creates engagement which generate needed page clicks. When differing opinions are expressed, then suppressed, the content will stagnate, as will participation.

I looked back a year ago and found quite a few posters who are deleted, deactivated or banned, but many who are still on the site, but have separated themselves from these forums.

They are the ones to ask.

Frankly, I'll take decreased activity as the price for a little peace and quiet on here.

  • Weather may be a factor. I mean it's so cold out there even im kinda sorta behaving

Hmm. Maybe some of the frequent board expert pontificators are taking some time off to actually cuddle. 😁

    @UncleDave
Oh they are still here for sure believe me. They are just showing up where you might not expect them. That's just my personal expert pontification on the matter

  • John how many times per year does you know who mention the word “poop”?

  • I'm sure there's an algorithm for that

  • Truth of the matter is usually when I talk about poops it's in place of something else that I'd really like to say but would get in trouble and might regret it at the end of the day because even though people bother me at the end of the day I don't hate anybody or want to cause harm so instead I talk about my poops. So there is for sure a correlation between talking about poops and wanting to curse folks

  • Speaking of poops, I have noticed that with the reduced activity on the forums that I am finding less bull poop in the pasture. Some people rely on that to keep warm.

  • You have a pasture ? Jelly

  • Hmm. Maybe some of the frequent board expert pontificators are taking some time off to actually cuddle. 😁

Seriously good point. I got 7 unread messages in my inbox and I spent the last week trolling @pmvines
