Trauma Induced Cuddling (TW: School sh00ting, death by suicide)

There was another school shooting today. Only this one was different. March 2023 we had a school shooting in my city. It was a small, private, Christian School across town. 6 people were killed - 3 staff and 3 elementary aged babies. It ripped us apart. It was a tragedy and it hurt.

Today was different. The school shooting today happened less than 3 miles from my home. It was at the public high school - the same one my kid is zoned for but doesn't attend. The killer was the same age as my kid. He killed a girl and then killed himself. Thankfully he didn't kill 10 people like he planned. It hurts. Parents sent their kids to school today, never to see them again; my heart aches for them. For the students throwing up as a result of the fear and the anxiety (my heart aches). For the students who will see the images over and over again (my heart aches). For the families whose trauma was plastered all over social media, pictures of their deceased child for the world to see (my heart aches).

And tonight, I just want to be held. I just want to be safe and be told that's it's okay. I just want someone's arms around me telling me it will be okay.

  • This is so heartbreaking. Once again. How does it ever stop?
I’m so sorry for those children, their families and all involved, the pain is contagious. And that this has to be your experience tonight, with all the others in your town. . πŸ™πŸ»πŸ€—

A couple years back there was one at the high school I had attended back in the day. Still unreal knowing it happened and hits hard especially when you know students/teachers there. It also caused some of my family that had been affected by it to move away πŸ₯Ί

  • So sorry it’s affected you directly also @CharlieBear
I’m getting so I don’t read the news lately.

  • @g_w_t_w by passing meaningful gun reform, and address mental health issues - which, is a the bottom of the list. A lot of my friends are teachers, who stuck around for the pandemic - they are terrified as well. Because they will put their lives on the line.

@CaramelNotes No child, or parent should have the daily thought of this. If I was in your area I’d offer up some cuddles, but I hope someone on here sees this and reaches out to you. There are so many people who have been personally touched by this, and I’m just sorry this is the country we live in. So so very sorry.

Maybe there is a vigil, or local support groups where you can feel safe with others who are feeling the same. If you need help finding sources - please message me and I’ll do the leg work.

  • Thank you for your kind words and offer of support @NikkiFM I just needed to get it out. I attended a healing vigil tonight that was good. I actually have folks I can cuddle with IRL but I am not even in the mood to call anyone. I'm just hurt

  • Couple of generations have basically been thrown away. Lackluster parenting combined with an abomination of an education system.

  • @wilderdude more like unrestricted access to guns. I didn't blame the parents who are working 2-3 jobs to make the ends meet and I definitely don't blame the school system

I feel empathy, compassion and support, and a little hopeless for change.

I would love to see enforcement of our gun laws, and prosecution of criminals who use guns in crimes. We have huge volumes of gun laws, but too often, violators go unpunished.

Mental health problems also need to be dealt with, but currently patient privacy is a greater right when the FBI does it's background checks for firearms purchasers.

  • @CaramelNotes I know. I keep feeling for the kids who witnessed it all. I also live in the area, if you ever want to chat! Maybe there will be a local meet and greet soon. Big hugs to you.

  • Being from the UK it's easy for me to say you need to ban guns like we have but it is so deep -rooted in your culture that it is never going to happen, especially in the present climate. I just hope these shootings don't get any more frequent. They don't even make the news here any more. My love goes out to all involved

  • Ugh... These kids don't know the true impact of what they're doing, and frankly I don't think they care. That's the problem. Not the tools they use .... The lack of respect for the fellow human
