From my time working with hippie granola peace corps folks : Ginger tea 🔥🔥 and elderberry syrup.
Does all this actually work though? Not trying to be contentious. I've found that so many home remedies just end up not being that effective. Could just be me or how it's being concocted. I'm not necessarily saying pharmacy stuff is always better, just that there seems to be a better track record for me personally. Like going to the health food store and getting the toothpaste that doesn't fight cavities and tastes like ass, or the deodorant that still leaves you smelling like a sub sandwich.
if you have a serious cold, everything is a bunch of horseshit relative to this one. unfortunately, doctors are a bit lazy handing it out. 6 pills, one a day, but you're out of the woods after the 2nd one at the latest.
@Sooson Azithromycin is an antibiotic and if you are taking that you do not have a cold, you have a bacterial infection of some sort. The reason doctors are stingy with it is because over prescribing antibiotics has rendered them less effective over time and bacterial infections such as pneumonia and ear infections have evolved and are becoming antibiotic resistant. A cold is not an infection.
@TheFunCartel Thank you. I remember being prescribed it twice during severe cold, but I trust your judgement that I must have also been diagnosed with bacterial infection on top of that. I still remember the first pill working like magic within hours after barely being able to even speak for a week.
A beautiful demonstration of why taking health advice from anyone other than an actual licensed physician/nurse with an actual professional education is not the best thing to do.
And, you know, rest and fluids.
I prescribe Xofluza based on body weight, but its hard to find, one tablet and all. Tamiflu twice a day for 5 days is best. Supportive care, oral hydration, rest. Be fever free without Tylenol or NSAIDs for 24 hours before returning to work. Wear a mask for 2 to 3 days after that. If symptoms persist, get a chest Xray to see if its not pneumonia. Good luck on the recovery!
I focus on prevention, I take vitamin c, zinc, and vitamin d daily.
It’s anecdotal for sure, but I know that the ginger increases mucus production to help flush out the germs and the freaking burning of it has to be doing something. 😂😂 Elderberry is an immune booster and took my most recent flu to two days rather than two weeks and no aches or chills. Fluids and rest of course, and please don’t take antibiotics for viruses!! Handwashing, good diet, and probiotics also help with prevention. Stay well and healthy all!
Hear me out:
Jameson orange, with a squeeze of lemon, a heavy drizzle of local honey, and then sprite as the mixer to balance to your taste/alcohol ratio preference.
Then- Vicks vapor rub on the bottom of your feet, be generous, followed by big fuzzy socks.
Cozy blanket, and pillow fort to help you fall asleep.
Works like a charm ☺️♥️
For anything that ails me or my family I typically go with a shot of Apple Cider Vinegar with the mother with some lemon juice on top followed by a spoon full of raw honey. 3-4 times a day. I make a clove, ginger, cinnamon infusion. Take that as a shot as well. Then I drink tea with nettles, clover blossom, mullein, licorice root, ginger root, peppermint and rooibos. I don’t rest much so that stuff keeps me going!
Vernon's and vicks vapor rub. ez
aw geez. am I the only detroiter on here? xD noone else is on here with Vernon's. wat in the wat.
A game changer for me has been using a Neti Pot. Such a weird sensation, but clears my sinuses so it doesn't last as long!
I live by oregano oil capsules. They’re natures antibiotic
@SweetPeaJen I'm so with you on the power of the neti pot!
Mucinex. That stuff WORKS.
Acupuncture...
Sleep, hydrate, and wait a week.
I live in Michigan so two points to anyone if you can guess what mine is. 😆🤦🏼♀️
@graceangel 😆 not a Detroiter, but we know what we know. 😉 Elixir of the Gods... Tonic of our youth. Mitten's got it's ways.
@pmvines it depends on what you are actually dealing with. If it's a virus it's got to run it's course and if it's bacterial you MAY need an antibiotic. The z pack that sooson posted is fairly broad spectrum but we shouldn't rush to take so many antibiotics as we are becoming resistant to bugs. Same with rushing to lower our fever if we can tolerate an above average one because that's the body fighting it. Stay hydrated and stay fueled with nutrients... ginger soothes an upset stomach, so you can eat. none of these things cure it .. they let your body do the work more comfortably, That's it. Sugar and alcohol are toxins best to avoid if you don't want to give your body something extra to combat. I have found mullein tea does actually help with sinus/chest congestion a lot. These things can help symptoms. They can not cure or shorten the duration of the illness. Lots of the stuff mentioned works for making people more comfortable when sick.
I have heard of people doing enemas to treat head colds. I can see the connection.
Apparently it cures cranial rectal inversion.
@craM hear me out... I don't know if it actually makes anything better. But it's the best thing ever when I don't feel good. Won't touch it any other time except when I'm sick.
Hot black tea
Tequila and sleepy time tea except I don’t drink anymore lol
@ladybug7 Vernors?
