I certainly believe so. Some people view showers as a chore, while others view it as a delicacy to be savored.

It certainly makes sense that if someone's top Love Language is Physical Touch, perhaps they are more physically sensitive than the average person. More ticklish, more delighted by massage, more itchy... If one is literally more sensitive, it would certainly follow that they would seek out and enjoy physical sensations like showers more than the rest of us.

Fill a ziplock baggie with white vinegar, and rubber-band it around your showerhead to soak for several hours/overnight. Then run hot water through it, and clean the exterior. It will be unclogged and sparkly, again. 🚿✨️

I feel this in my soul. I have to work up to getting in the shower, and then lay down to recover, afterward.

Some people, maybe even a little of both. I identify somewhat with what some were saying earlier about the chore aspect. I have mild ADHD. And in the other hand, when I'm in the shower, I enjoy it a lot.

  • This has turned an interesting direction to me.
I’ve wondered why I sometimes dread the process of getting ready to shower, never understood why. In advance it feels like a chore, too many steps. But once I’m in, I love the sensation of a very hard pressure shower. And then I don’t want to get out. I feel it nearly every night.
I thought it was just a weird thing about me. I am also ADD, though never officially diagnosed because when I was a kid there wasn’t such thing lol.
Since most people irl don’t have discussions about showering, I never knew this could be a thing. There are other processes I don’t like to start because of the overwhelming details I require.

  • @g_w_t_w Welcome to the club.

This is why we talk about the weird things. So other people know they're not alone, and maybe understand themselves a little better.

There are other processes I don’t like to start because of the overwhelming details I require.

In my experience, finding a lot of little steps daunting is an ADHD trait, but needing a lot of specific details is an autism trait. Sensory issues (both being sensory seeking and touch avoidant) are also autistic traits. And there is a 70% comorbidity between ADHD and autism, which can make it difficult to tell the difference between the two. That all said, I am not a professional therapist and am not capable of diagnosing anything.

  • @IronLemon
It would never would have occurred to me that I would be autistic to any degree but I have so many learning differences that I’ve always accepted and just found solutions.
There wasn’t this awareness when I was growing up. I’m an extreme perfectionist who doesn’t have the patience to be perfect.
I’m sure I’m not alone in this.

  • @g_w_t_w You're welcome to DM me with questions. Or start a new thread and get input from other people as well. :)

  • @IronLemon
Thank you. That’s probably the kindest thing anyone has said to me in a long time 🙏🏻

  • @g_w_t_w > I have so many learning differences that I’ve always accepted and just found solutions.
    This bit, this right here!
Unfortunately a lot of people, especially women, don't get diagnosed with autism when we should both because it presents differently than the way it does in little boys (which is the group they studied to come up with the diagnostic criteria), and because humans are deeply adaptable.

Before I found out I'm autistic I remember hearing people talk about the assessment question and thinking they didn't apply to me, because I had ✨A System✨ for dealing with the things I found difficult so I could still do them. 😅
The questions are worded poorly, but the existence of those systems we create to get around these difficulties is the proof they look for. 🤷🏼

Struggling with transitions is also very common with the 'tism, even aside from the sensory experience of going from dry to wet and vice versa, so it's really a double whammy.

  • @donhulio Speaking of ran shower heads, I saw a home improvement build once where they installed this shower where the whole shower ceiling was one big rain shower head and underneath half of it they put in this mesh bed, so the owners could fully just turn on the rain shower and lay down and just feel the rain. And lemme tell ya, I've never wanted a home improvement build more, it looked amazing!

  • @Runawaycuddles
It’s interesting to read this. It’s a concept I never would have applied to myself and I think my differences may be mostly from being ADD and Synesthetic, a perfectionist and constant emotional abuse when young.
Each person is so complex and unless they share these personal experiences and differences, how do we have a way to learn and compare?
It’s a lot to take in. I guess I’ve always just thought we all have something about us that unique. Whether it’s a condition or a problem, who knows maybe it’s just how we learn to cope.

I know I’ve talked about this before and everybody’s probably tired of hearing about it but growing up in the 50s and 60s there was no awareness about anything like autism or even ADD. At least it wasn’t talked about openly.
People didn’t seem to focus inward at least not that I was aware of.
Did any of us ever talk about how we felt about things, I don’t even remember.
It was all about having experience. and taking in what was around you and learning from it.
I honestly rarely spent time thinking about my differences or emotions very much.
It’s now ok to talk about who we are inside and people pay attention and that’s amazing!

  • @WestsideMarc "If this is the standard we’re setting, perhaps I’ll make a post about who likes eating food? Does anyone here like oxygen? Waxed v unwaxed floss. Favorite font? Isn’t ironing a drag? Comedians can be funny. Generally speaking women wear their hair longer than men. I’ll bow out now. Have a great night……."
wow this made me laugh so much. 😆

also on topic; I have a shower head with massage settings. my son likes using them, but I find them not very therapeutic. I like the rain setting as it just feels gentler. I don't get my boost from the water and showering so much as the aromatherapy from the shampoos and washes I use. I started using an Epsom salt based eucalyptus dr teaks wash. I'll stay in there till the heat runs out of the water.

  • and wow. reading comments about the sensory or neurodivergent experience is going into this pile of "I'm sure I have one if not 3 of these divergences going on".
I Need to make that a priority this year. to go and get some testing done. I already suffer from migraines and vertigo.
but yeah. showering feels like there's a lot going into it. once I'm in though; I've taken some for almost an hour depending if I shave or rewash my hair over and over

  • I've always wanted one of those multi spray shower setups like mr burns had on the Simpsons.

Only shows two here, but it has at least four or more (lower body)

  • [Deleted User]donhulio (deleted user)

    @SunsetSnuggles maybe check Temu 😂

  • I usually have to take very quick showers because the water drops hitting my skin are hard for me. So I kinda will procrastinate when I tell myself when I'm l tell myself to grab a quick shower at night.... But I'm also OCD and will not lay in my bed without feeling clean because I do not like things that my wacked out brain views as " dirty"
If I'm super tired and just cannot. I sleep on the couch or floor 😂😂😂😂😂
