Having been a victim of fraud more than once will do that to someone's perspective. Or at least it did for me. And it's not like I leave my information out there all open. I don't know how someone managed to get a bad copy of my driver's license and try to open a bunch of credit cards and buy a car in my name, but I'm thankful for the police department that called me and informed me of what was happening so I could quickly freeze my credit and take other necessary steps. I've also been stalked more than once, one time being by a person I never met finding my parents' home phone number and calling it incessantly to harass me even in the middle of the night. So you bet I have something to hide - my private information to prevent anything like that happening again. Not anything nefarious.
Far as I know (and this info may be out of date), eHarmony verifies via SMS. But they're not doing any kind of a background check on members.

There is nothing "brilliant" about submitting your life history to someone you may meet for 1-2 hours and may never see again (or end up not seeing at all due to circumstances unrelated to the background check , after it was already run) . Go ahead and assume I'm whatever and I will move on to deal with the 99.9% that don't require a background check.
I think it's a good idea in order to protect people. I however wouldn't be involved with it if that was a policy. I think there should a a verification method that i might be ok with but i haven't seen an example of it. Maybe if there was some other mechanism i was working with that had the pertinent information that be used and i could use that. Imagine a service that i had to use to navigate life and i trusted already, id allow CC the access to see in telling the truth, but not to any information on there own. Example, if i use a Mastercard to pay something the odds are that my name and identification match. I trust Mastercard has enough security to keep my information safe. I trust my bank and maybe a few other places to protect and even house my information. (fASFA, Soc Sec admin, insurance) I'm not opening up myself to another outfit.
I think it's a great maybe necessary notion, i just wouldn't do it.
@Sooson The background check would not involve submitting your (only there if questionable) life history to the Pro. They would simply be told it came back clean, or no. Maybe in which categories...which is all online, anyway. You can look up peoples' names and find out if they have driving violations, criminal violations, sex offender violations...

I’m new on this site. It saddens me to hear that there have been assaults through connections on here. But unsurprisingly so.
@SunsetSnuggles ok so I'm just curious. If you provide someone the required information to run a background check, how do you know which one they will order. I know there are multiple services that offer background checks ( I see them pop up in searches when I look up a phone number). Some provide every address you ever lived in, every phone number you had, family members, school and work info etc... How do you know what kind of background check the person will order?
@Sooson I'm envisioning the site hiring a third party to run them. (And yes, it would incur a fee on the members which is why we'll never see it implemented.)
All the site would receive and the cuddlers would see is something like this:
❌️ Driving Violations ✅️ Criminal Violations ✅️ Sex Offender Violations
No details given...simply pass or fail in those types of categories.
Personally, I would just have the latter two, as I'm pretty sure everyone but my mother has had a traffic ticket in their lifetime. 😆 That would have no consequence in the realm of cuddling, and if it did, it would involve a criminal level, which would then tick that box, anyway.
The idea that pros are self employed does not carry weight. Uber requires clean driving records.
Its a private site. It maybe a hobby for the owners or quite lucrative. Its really up to the owner of CC.
I would 100% pay more of there was a good review system. I think a good review system would help weed out the bad actors.
@RapidCuddles Not sure I understand your comment? Pros are independent contractors, they don't work for the site. All the site does is provide a way for them to connect with clients and it charges a percentage in return. In what way does it not carry weight?
@WriterGF , Uber drivers do NOT work for Uber. Uber is matching making for people that need rides. They are 1099 employees, NOT W-2. All of this can be said similar to CC.
Though not all pros treat income as 1099 income, I have a hard time thinking why they an ethical reason why they would not file a 1099.
If you get in a car, with a 1099 Uber driver, Uber had completed background checks of various kinds.

But for the same reasons mentioned by me the site CAN.
In regards to the liability, that's why background checks are typically done by a 3rd party and there is an appeal process.

If the site had more “guard rails”, would more people use the site to off set the cost.
You have to spend money to make money. But you can also be content, which is gold.
The site could do many things differently but choose to keep it the way it is (for now) Their prerogative, their choice and we can do it their way or leave. People who want a different type of site can start their own. Many of us have great ideas of ways to make changes. But it’s not up to us. I get their side of it I guess, they have a particular business model. I realize that it’s up to me to keep myself safe.
In the United States you can not get a criminal background check in all 50 states. Only Law Enforcement can get a nationwide background check for legal purposes only. Some states anyone can get a background check on some from individual states at a cost. Some states require a release signed by individual. Rest will not release the background check.
@stoneman backgrounds can include national sex offender registry. All 50 states and the district of Columbia.
Granted, some CSC is super old or non-sense. Some is pretty serious.

I could be wrong, but I think ownership is content. That's not to be disrespectful. Rather an observation .OR they have taken it as far as they can. Which is okay too.
I do think a better review system solves a lot of issues people repeatedly point out.
If you don't feel comfortable why even be on this type of site-or even online dating? We vet teachers and that has not stopped the rise in inappropriate and unlawful relationships with students and especially FEMALE teachers! (who basically just get a slap on the wrist)

1099 is the designation for self employed.
My point is just because they are 1099, it does not mean the site can NOT do a background. They may choose not to, but they CAN. Its under their control.
If buy alcoholol, should my age be verified? It can be. The merchant may or may not require. Or lets say I go to a club, or a 18+ event or 21+ event. No money is exchanged at this point. The venue may require ID.
I'm not sure how legal the site is. And not my concern.
But, I wonder if it pays foreign tax into the USA? Legally it should. But also sets up a bunch of other “rules”
Unfortunately so many businesses put women and men together alone one on one and yes creepy and scary things happen. They encourage us to carry non lethal weapons. We have your info before you start the session. Those two things should hopefully be enough to prevent anyone acting crazy but... It happens. All the time. I think background check would be fine but costly I don't want it to come out of my end 😬🤷🏼♀️

Posting and meeting on this site is very much like using Craigslist to hire an independent contractor - be it a massage therapist, a plumber, or whatever service. Craigslist doesn't vet the people who use the site, and they do charge for placing ads. CL also puts plenty of notices and warnings to follow common sense guidelines to avoid scams and other bad actors.
