QuietTimes, I can't argue with Stewart on that one, I would agree Chicago deep dish pizza could fall into the casserole category and as far as my take on Jets, though good, to me it's more like a thick bread with pizza toppings

I've had some great pizzas from coast to coast. Let's see what I can remember this early in the morning.
In Chicago, I've been to Uno's and Giordanho's. Both really good, but deep dish isn't my favorite.
Some of the best you'll ever have is in New Haven, CT. They call it Apizza (ah-beetz). It's coal-fired in brick ovens. Thin, charred crust. Pepe's and Sally's are the most famous places, but my favorites are Modern Apizza and Zuppardi's.
I went to this place in Des Moines that was a pizza/chinese fusion place. Had a General Tso pizza that was amazing.
Of course, the North End in Boston is great. Hit up Umberto's or Regina's.
In my hometown of Providence, everyone swears by Casserta's, but I've never really been a fan.

@Finnegan2017 Sally's was bought out and is corporate owned now. They still make a pretty good pie, but the locals tend to favor Modern or Pepe's. Bar is pretty good and Next Door and Est Est definitely deserve honorable mention. In fact, when introduced to some one new, one of the first questions asked is Pepe's or Modern and friendships are formed or not based on the answer. Apizza Loyalty is truly a thing here in New Haven.
My all-time favorite pizza was from a restaurant named Spirito’s in Elizabeth, New Jersey. The place closed a few years back after being in business 90+ years. I would always order two large pizzas with extra Italian sausage. They made their own sausage in house. I ate their pizza for more than 40+ years. When I got my drivers license, I started going there on my own. I would order two pizzas because by the time I got home all the sausage would be eaten off of one of the pizzas especially if I had the kids with me. I will say til the day I die I miss Spirito’s.
I actually started making my own Chicago Deep Dish Stuffed Pizzas. It is a 2 layer, bottom is usually like sausage and peppers combination and top layer just sauce and cheese. Usually 3-4 inches thick and so delicious!
The little town of Sonoma, California offers the most flavorful pizza I have ever experienced. If you are ever in the area give Mary's Pizza Shack a try. Owned and operated by an Italian family since 1959.
My favorite type is Chicago Deep Dish and when visiting Chicago I had pizza from Giordano’s and Pequod’s. Amazing. I was told there must be something magic in the water there.

@Adragayle I did not know that about Sally's. I always preferred Modern anyway. I've heard of Bar and Next Door, but never tried them. I live a couple of hours away, so only hit New Haven when work brings me there, so I'll usually stick with what I know. I have some family who live in West Haven, so they turned me on to Zuppardi's. I may have to try a couple of your recommendations. I'd put New Haven pizza up against anywhere.
Best thin crust pizza I ever bought was in a little mom and pop shop in Croatia.
Dubrovnik was part of the ancient Italian trading empires out of Florence, Genoa, and Venice and had better “Italian” food than many places in Italy.
For all other pizzas I’m biased - I make several styles at home and they’re delicious.
Oh my freaking God, they're back!! My favorite pizza joint was on Long Island, New York, and they shut down "permanently" during Covid. I've checked back numerous times, and they're finally back!! I'm so stoked, my mouth is already watering for their thick vegan buffalo chicken pizza. 😭🍕 Someone get me on a plane!!

Lou Malnati's Thin Crust One Half: Peperoni and Sausage, the other half: Sliced Tomato, Chedder and Garlic
And what works great for the pepperoni and sausage half is to sprinkle shredded cheese and hot giardiniera on top. I recombed both cold and not cooked with the pizza. Even better on a deep-dish pizza.
@Janelle19 Is there a specific aspect that bothers you about pizza? I don't like tomatoes, and won't eat pizza that has huge chunks of tomatoes in the sauce.
How do you feel about garlic bread? Or marinara sauce? (Just trying to deconstruct it a bit.)
There are definitely tons of pizza toppings that would ruin it for me...if pizza has olives, onions, or fennel, I won't eat it. 🤐

metro Detroit has their own style of pizza. best place to try it if you've never been here is buddy's. it has some similarities to old big scicillian. ours is also deep, but ours is square or rectangle with crispy edges. I also really enjoy pizza huts big new Yorker pizza. that's really good. around here we have hungry howies who has flavored crusts. I really enjoy their garlic herb crust. I will give the big apple their due though. when I went for nycc a few years ago, their slices were like.... the biggest I've ever seen in my life. they were like three to five times the size of a normal slice.
@SunsetSnuggles I forgot about Grandma's pizza out on the Island. Thanks for the reminder. It was one of the best places. I actually found the recipe online and used to make it on occasion (never quite as good as the real deal)

@easylike I don’t like pizza either. Feels like a cannonball in my stomach after eating. I think more people are like @Janelle19 and myself but are not saying so out of respect for this thread and the pizza enthusiasts on here.

Between the acid of the tomatoes, gluten in the dough, and lactose intolerance I’ve met quite a few folks that avoid it.
I like pizza quite a bit, but eating it in large quantities doesn't align with my fitness goals. So I work in buying a slice when I go to Costco and that scratches the itch for me.
I do splurge a few times a year and order a whole one to share with a cuddle partner, which is fun.
