how to design cuddle nest

  • I'm loving all the responses and hope more will contribute.

  • Well, my cuddle nest in Wyoming consists of the bed with a vegan silk pillowcase, an absolutely glorious heated blanket, and usually Alexa's "babbling brook" on volume one. Sometimes, my gentle moon light. 🌕

My cuddle nest in Colorado consists of the bed, a duplicate of my afore-mentioned super soft, huge blankie, and a galaxy and star projector with a remote that adjusts the speed, direction, color combinations, etc. It's star beams are green, so I have an additional USB plug that does blue stars. 💙 The usual sound ambience is delta waves, or sometimes one of YouTube's "raindrops on clay jars" all-nighters.

Gosh, I wanna go snuggle down and take a cozy nap, now...

  • @SunsetSnuggles - wow... that sounds SO AMAZING

Aw, thank you. They aren't the prettiest set-ups (aside from the lighting), but they are so comfy and calming. Add in my boyfriend, and 'tis pure bliss. 🥰

I was thinking about this again, and I remembered another thread that touched on this topic at least tangentially.

There’s also an element of physical sensation. I’ve always loved the swaying gentle motion of a hammock - the idea of cuddling on one would be nice.

I’ve also seen hanging beds that could be interesting.

One downside are these are definitely bigger investments - but now I’m planning my next woodworking project and thinking about the hanging bed…

  • @Spoonful0fSugar - looooove the idea of adding kinesthetic elements like swaying :)

I’m bit of a pillow addict lol 😂 but remove most for sessions. I do have duvet with insert, blankets, etc so it is snuggly and warm. I do either candle or diffuser, low lighting, meditation music, ceiling fan on/AC on. I do ask if they have any allergies

  • I have a vibrating adjustable bed. For myself, I'm not sure how much it helps with tense muscles, but it does help me fall asleep. And every one of my cuddlers has loved it. (With conversation, no falling asleep)

Obviously not for the average nest. Those things aren't cheap.

  • @IronLemon - oooh that's fascinating! I prob wont go for that kind of bed b/c I love mine but wondering how to enhance that tactile experience.

  • @Curvynaps you've put a lot of thought into your nest, I’m kind of curious… where did you land on it? Do you mind sharing?

  • I would love to have a conversation pit...

    And the space for one

  • what is a conversation pit?

  • @lovingspoonfull - I have a bedroom I am not using that often b/c I have a mess in the living room (reorganizing after ex left me); I have chosen to have my cuddles there. I have a snack box, an Alexa speaker, I have a natural view that looks over a water feature and trees. I also have a snack box and drinks. I want to get electric candles. I have a corner w a storage rack for belongings of my cuddle visitor. And a bathroom he can use.
I like how it turned out. Ultimately I will make the living room be the cuddle space but for now this works. :)

I pride myself on feathering a pretty darn good nest over here, but some of these are institutional level. I do deliver though on all 5 of the senses though, I will say that.

  • @Curvynaps that sounds nice, especially the view and soft light from the flickering candles. Thanks for the update!

And @tallteddy is a conversation pit like the old sunken livings rooms from the 70s and 80s? Used to be common? Found a more modern example…

  • @WestsideMarc - what do you mean by institutional level? I imagine 70s concrete buildings and concrete benches.

  • @Curvynaps I meant it metaphorically not literally. In other words not like a harsh concrete institution type building, but more like high level, well structured, impressively appointed, etc…

  • @WestsideMarc - that is very sweet. :3

As a Taurus-influenced Aries, I have an ABSOLUTE LOVE for soft, swaying, cushy environments. Had to get that out of the way :)
However, the environment could, frankly, be a cold, wet basement if the person I'm cuddling is warm, willing, and receptive----because that would give me alllll of the "ambiance" I'd need! I'll bring the rest!!! lol
