With all the global newbies joining, I'm curious if/how the multi-lingual, multi-cultural, geographically-spread user base will affect participation on the board, and how this will impact the design of the user interface.
What will the interactions between people look like?
...

Will the profiles remain the same?
Will we pick a "primary" language for our interface and postings?
Will there be different cultural understanding of what this place is about?
Will the mission change for the global participation?
Will EU currency be in there. What if Brexit completes. Will there be some sort of UK currency?
All kinds of things to think about.

These are not direct questions to the site, but things that I've been thinking about; for much longer than 1 day, so I couldn't post this thought on the "thought of the day" thread.

Have you interacted with someone in another country, whoes primary language is not English?
Any thoughts to the thread?

    I've had friends in Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Holland. France and Portugal. None of them had English as a primary language but all spoke and wrote good English. The differences are mainly cultural. There is also a huge cultural difference between English-speaking countries like the UK, USA and Australia, and even between different parts of those countries. It would be interesting to have 'native language' as one of the required profile questions, but I think the main language of communication here will always be English. I don't see how the administrators of this site could monitor messages in, for example, Icelandic.

    @galowglass - That would be one of the problems in trying to implement a 'bad word' filter, how would it cope with different languages?

    Well we are approaching age of Star Trek soon. We will have Language translator devices doing more effective job making us feel we all are speaking same language :) .. I infact communicate with my Spanish maid using one of such devices.. Although I do end up having Spanglish situations.. Lol
