Men’s Mental Health

edited February 2025 in General

I won’t be entering into a discussion; merely leaving a thought, which I’m entitled to do…

If a man is labelled as petty, whiny and told it would be better to keep quiet when he articulates his thoughts and feelings then you have done him a great disservice and are complicit in the deterioration of mens mental health.

You may not agree with the sentiments he expresses but you definitely don’t need to be accusatory and insulting. Either listen and give a kind word or keep it moving. No need to demonise. That should be applied to all humans but I mention specifically men as they don’t seem to be afforded the same kind treatment when it comes to compassion. Often man is judged and maligned for no fault of his own and just wants to vent or educate others into how he feels.

Thank you and take care 🫶

I am not sure how many male responses from the USA you'll get on this subject, when I was working a gentleman from Demark told me that he noticed how "macho" American men appeared to be lol

If your mental health is deteriorating because of things complete strangers on the Internet, who know next to nothing about you, say to or about you, maybe consider those forums or that site are not the place for you.

@easylike yeah I’m very aware. The most obnoxious of humanity.

@WriterGF Perhaps assess your own judgemental behaviour? I didn’t mention anything about my personal mental health nor did I ask your unsolicited advice.

Just dropping some words of advice for others. Advice you couldn’t heed.

Actions and behaviour have an impact on people. That’s the real world. As much as you want people to disappear and not say anything it might be better to treat people better 👍

This place isn’t for you and your friends to put people down and tell them to leave if they don’t like it. Doesn’t cost to be a decent person.

  • There are some things a man should be able to handle with just some honest, quiet reflection and introspection.

Not every bump in the road requires public hand-wringing.

This is just my thought on the topic, and isn't directed towards the OP or anyone else.

@TxTom you know full well men don’t cry. We’re not even allowed to open our mouths. Remember…

    Let alone every bump.

    That’s gaslighting terminology.

A man says something and he’s told he’s always complaining or crying…

    Except he isn’t.

That’s jus Gaslighting to make a man feel inadequate and less of a man. Hence he suffers in silence because he’s told to shut up and put up with it.

Men become number 1 simps for a bit of kitty tho Real understanding 🤣

Reported, reviewed, and OP is in a 14 day forum timeout for personal attacks after being warned not to call anyone a simp. [-Sid]

    I ain’t buying it…

I suspect that everyone has been emotionally shut down in their lives at some point.

Because people tend to self-absorption, and immediately react to other people’s emotions by trying to “calm” them, or give them solutions.

Because virtually everyone has been traumatized by an angry adult at some point, and most of us learn that angry, emotional adults are VERY dangerous.

And, simply because the average male out weighs and out powers the average female by a significant margin, angry men are naturally shunned.

My experience has been, when I let my anger or fears be expressed with anyone other than a trusted friend in a safe place AND with a prefaced warning, whoever is near me will get away from me.

This is the burden of being large and scary.

And, having been traumatized myself, I empathize, and proactively try to control myself.

I’ve also learned that virtually nothing is about me, and almost no one is paying attention to me, so why would I let someone’s angry 30 seconds throw my 24 hour day into a spin, especially when whatever they are angry about is not me…

If you need to express your pain, your best bet as a man is: Long term male friends, a dog, a tree, a therapist, a warm line, and if you worry you might be a danger to yourself or others, a hotline.

But, of course, that’s what works for me. And isolation.

    Your mileage may vary.

I do know when tearjerker movie starts to choke me up at the end, all of a sudden, I have to hit the head lol, So I think you're on to something CuddlyKind7

@CuddlyKind7 Ah, so this topic has nothing to do with how you felt you were being treated in your previous locked topic then. My mistake

  • Locked.

Folks, the forum rules are easy. Lay off the personal attacks. Write yourself a note. Send yourself an email. Write it on paper and burn it. But don't subject the forum to personal attacks. Practice kindness, or practice it in timeout.
