I love how John Wayne played Genghis Khan the same way as his cowboy characters lol. He didn't care to make any effort in portraying a Mongolian. Turns it into unintentional comedy.

One of the recent most egregious whitewashing in film was in Star Trek into darkness. They managed to find the whitest white man there is to play Khan noonien Singh lol. While Ricardo montalban was not sikh/indian he looked as though he could be.
On the flip side I found it really strange that edris elba was a Norse god in the Thor movies. That and having an obvious Japanese character walking around in Asgard was really weird. Yes, fictional/mythical characters but they were based on Norse mythology and really should have looked the part.
@TxTom yeah I found it really weird that thefuncartel calls something like that karma, as though he finds some twisted form of justice has been served for miscasting. As though the entirety of the crew for that film deserved to pay for that offense with their lives.

@wilderdude Exactly. Wayne and actor are two words that should not go together—he just played himself over and over and over again. No one said an Asian actor should carry the film in 1956, but they fired a lot of extras that were Asian. No effort put into that at all.
But this was a product of the big studios and why the late 60s and 70s was an exciting time in the movies—this was the era of independent directors making more authentic movies with ethnic representation when it was appropriate. Studios never had the guts to put in an Asian actor as a lead—they never tried to put a minority in the lead until Sidney Poitier came along. And even then they acted like he was the only black leading man in Hollywood.

You are either ignorant that karma doesn’t mean the same thing as comeuppance as you are insinuating or you just love using magical thinking to recreate words in your own image. Karma is a form of cosmic justice. Your statement that the cast/crew getting cancer and dying after working on the film implies that the scales of justice were balanced when that happened.
@easylike no dislike of anybody white or conservative, I don't imagine funcartel is conservative at all and I'm not sure if he/she is a man or woman or even white. Just a catch all term I use for people that have read a wiki page or two acting as though they are some sort of authority on a topic they have a sophomoric (at best) level of understanding of.

I really enjoyed the Matrix. I liked the story as well as the advanced for its time special effects.
I did not enjoy any of the sequels even half as much.
I also liked Free Guy.
I also like an interview I saw where they intend no sequels. It was a fun one off.
Big selling point of the original matrix was finding about about all the new stuff in the matrix. Hard to match that in sequels.
Sequel storylines got a bit too complicated to follow, loads of philosophical stuff that you can't really be sure really makes any sense lol

The ORIGINAL idea, which came from Bruce Lee in the first place, was that Caine was meant to be ALL ASIAN not "half". 😝 Bruce was suppose to play Caine, it was his idea not Carradine. Bruce came up with the whole storyline for Kung Fu which should have been called The Warrior. 😁
bruce lee would've been awful. dude can't act. highly overrated both as a martial artist and actor. I'll give him philosophy, he's great at that.

But with the disappointment of Kung Fu, also came opportunity for Bruce (not in America obviously 🙄😄) but Green Hornet though short lived caught somebody's attention because that is when hits like Fist Of Fury and The Chinese Connection came along for him.😁👍
Damn shame he died, without ever seeing HOW AWESOMELY BAD ASS Enter The Dragon did theatrically. 👍 That movie put him in the American spotlight right there, but he died never seeing it. 🫤😇
