Most painful insect sting.

edited April 2025 in General

Members of the Satere-Mawe tribe must complete a ritual where they have to stick their hands in gloves infested with bullet ants and get stung repeatedly. They have to do that in order to be be considered to be true warriors of the tribe.

Would you allow yourself to be intentionally stung by these ants?

  • This is where being a pacifist comes in handy.

  • While I am (or at least was) a professional warrior, I'm now 100% certain that I will never be a warrior of that tribe

  • If I were in the tribe and raised with the ideal of being a warrior, yes, I think I would. Those kinds of traditions are important.

  • @Katelyn_B one of the best replies I've seen in one of the forums in a long time.

    They must keep their hands in the gloves for a full 10 minutes without showing any signs of weakness. They are led in a dance to help get their mind off it. They must complete the ritual a total of 20 times over their lifetime before they earn the status of warrior.

    @Katelyn_B 👍👍👍👍

    I agree with you, IF I was traditionally raised up in that particular tribe (from birth) with tales of heroic feats by other fellow ancestor warriors (who came and face the enemy and died in a triumph blaze of glory 💪😁) to encourage and pump me up with catchy badass heroic phrases like "Are you ready to take your place amongst the BRAVE ONES, Katota?!" OR "Remember Katota: GUTS OVER FEAR!"💪😃

    Then hell yes, I am there! 😁💪👍

    But! ☝️

    I was only raised up in a family where we name our kids after movies and/or music groups, though my actual name wasn't inspired by either...Sighs! 🤦😆
    Yeah, it's an ironic and dumb "tradition" we have sadly been doing for years now. Lol 😆

    Including myself, I named my son after a character from a movie and I ALSO PRONOUNCED said name the exact same way another character from said movie pronounces that particular character's name. 😁

    Ya know, I'm watching the clip and thinking "won't he just go to a hospital already?".

    😆

    @Mike403 Interesting topic, thanks for sharing Mike. 😄🫂

  • That video is hysterical. Never before have I found such joy in the pain of another human being.
