I really liked the photo I posted with Pete because my oldest son who was @21 then, took the pic and it was his first time meeting one of his Dad's childhood heroes. My son was an Ohio State student at the time and when Pete found out about that, lol, we started chatting about Ohio State Football forever it seems. We were really fortunate that day because it was unusually slow at the event and so we got to chat with Pete for a long time. Just another special memory!
When Pete broke the MLB hit record in "85 I was living in a small little river town on the Ohio / West Virginia state line. We didn't have TV available so we listened of course to Marty and Joe on 700WLW radio. I can still hear their voices. We lost Joe Nuxhall back in '07 but Marty Brennaman is still with us. Two super class acts!

@60sKindaGuy lol. If statutory rape is a disqualifier then most from his era would be disqualified. 80s and prior the age of consent was more of a suggestion than a hard rule, especially for athletes and musicians.
Hell, there were songs openly glorifying seducing underage girls.

As the OP it pleases me that this action was taken but also angers me that it happens after his death. Sure, he was mostly a jerk but his performance on the field is what counts. Hopefully, his family can celebrate this and move on.

@60sKindaGuy @wilderdude Here's some food for thought - as recently as 2017, girls as young as 14 could still legally get married in some states. The age of consent as we know it today didn't generally get put into law until around 1999 in many states. Come of think of it, one of my favorite 80's songs is partly about an adult seducing a teenager ("I Love Rock n Roll" by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts).
Not trying to justify or defend anything Pete Rose may have done, just giving context that statutory rape didn't have the same meaning 40-50 years ago that it does now.

Also since we are on the topic of celebrities getting with underage women, Anthony Keidis, Iggy Pop, David Bowie, Jimmy Paige, and Steven Tyler are among just a handful of famous musicians with documented evidence who were all with underage folks.
Another fun story. When I was in junior high a girl a couple years older who was 15 went to see David Lee Roth and ended up backstage with him in a non platonic way. Another fun fact. The old 80s band Nelson were in town and one of the singers ran into a 14 yr old friend of mine and was totally hitting on her. Got her number and tried convincing her to come to let him send someone to take her to his hotel. She didn't do it. What a creepy predator.
Does any of this change my opinion on grown adults pursuing sex with underage kids simply due to the time period and circumstances? HELL NO !
