Blocked because of politics

I just got blocked by someone that reached out to me because I said I do not want to talk about politics with anyone I cuddle with. Has this happened anyone?

Yes it has happened before. In fact in the USA it isn't that rare. It's probably not because you don't want to talk about politics: it's because even mentioning it in such a way puts some people off.

Note that the human brain is not always good at spotting negatives, and it's not impossible that the person misread your message and thought you actively wanted to talk about politics. It's also possible that they read and understood you correctly, but interpreted your comment as, again, wanting to talk about politics: it's a bit like somebody saying, "Would you like a biscuit? I just want to be clear that they haven't fallen on the floor or been licked by the dog, no sirree, nothing like that has happened."

Politics and religion are banned in the forum because there are too many people who can't play nicely.

What is discussed during a cuddle session is of course a matter for the participants, providing the topic is platonic.

  • Maybe?

I was talking with someone for a while that had very different views. She was actively looking for someone to cuddle who shared or was open to her views.

I was open about mine but started reading materials that she provided so I could better understand her viewpoint. Ultimately she decided not to cuddle me. It was civil at least. No idea if she blocked me but I believe she deactivated later.

My half-joking thought was that you couldn’t be angry about politics while cuddling so why not give it a shot? 😇

Generally I try to steer clear but that was her preferred topic.

But in all honesty, it could be that you dodged a bullet. Civil discourse about politics has become almost mythical in rarity.

Hey, I got blocked for saying I appreciated something someone had posted in her profile, so it seems you can get blocked for just about anything. I gave up trying to understand the reasons (since I would need the blocking party's input), and try not to let it bug me. It's their prerogative, as it is mine, too.

Oh yes, people use the Blocking function in a bewildering variety of ways, some of which you couldn't imagine in a million years. It's not even all that rare to be Blocked by somebody whose profile you have never visited.

I blocked the OP and I’m not sorry.

I blocked you because I wanted to remove you from my possibles list. You made it clear you aren’t interested because politics is important to me. You aren’t interested and neither am I.

  • I would think talking politics while cuddling would not be the best idea unless you both subscribed to the same views. Personally that would sap all the fun out of it, even if we were in agreement. I’d save that convo for those long car rides where you are stuck with one another when you want to enjoy that long awkward silence.

@Amalie @funnybunnyfeet when there is a block in place forum communication between the two parties is against the rules

In at least one professional cuddler profile that I have seen it says the cuddler won't cuddle with anyone who voted for a certain candidate. Talking politics while cuddling is the last thing I want to do. If it is brought up I will change the subject.

I get it because I don't want to share very personal and intimate space with someone who attacks something I feel strongly about. I wouldn't really bring it up in the cuddling moment but it's more comfortable for me knowing that the other person is compassionate by my standards

  • @Adento Exactly. In many cases I wouldn’t even feel safe. But blocking is not blackballing someone nor writing negative karma. In my case, I block anyone whom I’ve decided is not for me. It’s a big haystack. How will I find the silver needles if I don’t quickly eliminate the hay?

  • @Adento I, too, am reticent to engage in political banter during a cuddle. Especially someone with whom I am sharing such space for the first time.

I am curious by what you wrote, and wouldn't want to misunderstand the intentions of your wording. Are you saying that anyone who doesn't hold to your personal views/ideologies couldn't possibly be a compassionate person? What you wrote could be taken that way. (I have no idea what your personal views are - political or otherwise - so I am not asking specifically about those. More of just a general notion that someone with different ideas than your own can't be as compassionate as you are.) Thanks in advance.

  • Okie dokie, this sideways political discussion is over. If you don't want to cuddle someone in another party don't. We aren't debating who is more compassionate.

And lol, no my post wasn't censored I put it in mod blue so the two people I was talking to knew it was a mod speaking.
