Today was the flag raising for a pride flag where I am. Apparently this is the first year they've done that. In the discussions around it, the only issues raised were that it might make us a target. But beyond that, the community was overwhelmingly supportive, with no one actually opposed.
The air was dead calm while the flag was being raised. But then about a minute (or less) after it was up, there was just enough breeze to see the flag fully unfurled, just for a few seconds.
Afterwards, there was some discussion on what pride means, with people of various ages. It's a simple statement that we are here, existing in a world hostile to us. It's an expression of defiance and resistance. It's solidarity, saying that this is a safe place for us.
There's a number of other events (pride festivals and the like) in the area that I'm looking forward to.

I attended two pride rallys last weekend. One in my small town and one in a larger town. I cannot tell you how exhilarating it was to see so many smiling, happy faces. I gave and received enough hugs to last me a little while. I did not want to leave. I display my pride stickers on my car and flag in my yard. I went with members of our Pflagg organization many of whom cried in happiness. What a contrast to the hate permeating throughout " the land of the free".
No " land of the free" in this country anymore when 3 transgender graduates with honors are denied a commission in our Air Force because of who they are. I know this will be flagged......

Happy Pride! I grew up religious and went from homophobic to very bi in about a decade. I'm dating a man now so my lucky parents get to ignore that about me haha. For now.
