I love using the Priceline app and specifically their “Express Deals” feature. At this moment there are 3 and 4 star hotels in Manhattan for $133 and $150 for tonight. You don’t get to know the name of the hotel but you can choose the stars and the neighborhood.
Dayuse and Resortpass are good for such a thing but be cautious during busy seasons. You aren't secured a room and if the hotel overbooks you are the first on the chopping block. If you're depending on a room for a large session, I'd book a full night.
Hilton offers 9-5 day use rooms when you pick the same day for check-in and check-out.
