Goo Goo Dolls' cover of "Give a Little Bit" easily exceeds Supertramp's. Tim Buckley's "Song to the Siren" is great, Elizabeth Fraser's version is otherworldly.
Björk's cover of O Pabbi Minn captures the emotions of a daughter's tribute to her father better than the original, in my opinion.

I (and I think others) thought these two songs were originals since these two bands played these two songs quite a lot. It wasn't until years later that I realized they were covers. Quiet Riot and Van Halen of course.
