Run Clubs

Anyone big on running or doing run clubs?

I’ve been doing them for years especially since I used to race a lot in 5Ks and did a couple half marathons and one full. I kind of dropped off the last few years but am starting to get back into it. Just did a run club this morning that had over 40 people and they seemed super competitive - many do 8, 9, sometimes up to 20 miles every time the group meets!

  • I joined a training group for the first few half-marathons I did, that was basically a run club with a specific goal. There were pace groups and defined distances. Since then I've been mostly solo, I know in my brain that it would be beneficial to me to have running partners for accountability as well as community, I just haven't done it. Tell you what, I did 9 miles this morning, took me almost 2 hours, and imagining going 20 miles is just ridiculous!

Searching for a good run club in ATX. I run 4 to 5 days a week.

  • I'll run a club where we chill in the A/C and hug stuffed animals! 🧸

But no, I've never even jogged more than intermittently between walking. πŸ˜†

I have, however, began meeting a friend once every week to walk for an hour together, and it's been lovely. Especially because there's a beautifully soft foal on our route who comes over for pets when I call him. πŸ₯°πŸ΄

Used to run 2-4 miles every day until I fell off a roof a few years ago and shattered my lower left leg, ankle and foot. Now I am reduced to hiking, walking and climbing which require more time to burn the calories you could in half the time running. If try to run now I would look like Frankenstein dragging a foot behind because I can’t bend it properly. When she is home I go with my daughter because she pushes me more because her motor is built off tennis and back country. You can run up to ten miles during competitive tennis matches and much of that is from intermittent sprints. Her legs and core are so strong that she scares me.

Edit: but forgot to get to my point. So my daughter is joined to a running club for people who have athletic dogs. She has a border collie and that thing runs and runs and runs. One person has a small terrier but the terrier is only good for a mile and a half. πŸ˜‚
