I know this site isn't Facebook, Instagram, etc. I just think cuddlecomfort needs a "like" feature.
I am going to leave this one up, however there is a spot on how the website can be improved for posts like this for future reference. I don’t disagree. I don’t know if I agree either though. Lol. Like button would be interesting.
I disagree. Last thing I I wanna see is a bunch of attention seekers desperately seeking validation and approval by pandering to others instead of having independent thoughts and ideas.
In its absence, you can always respond positively to someone's post in a topic.
You could simulate one; observe: 👍
(... i know it isn't quite the same.)
I was thinking this the other day, too. A way to express liking a post without making your own comment would be cool. It's like drive-by appreciation. Very efficient...
Please no. I agree that this will just encourage attention seekers to post inane forum topics just to feed their egos.
@pmvines @MattMiles 💯 I also feel that since there are some threads where people come to express their fears, sorrow, depression, and struggles that a like button can aggravate and trivialize these threads when discussion and support is clearly the aim. Imagine reinforcing someone’s feelings of isolation because they receive no likes and someone who is dismissive of their struggle receives many.
I would hate for these forums to become a full-fledged social media site with all the negative implications that accompany it.
However, I would not be opposed to a hugs button and hugs dammit button.
🫂
hugs dammit button
As the originator of the phrase "hugs dammit" I enthusiastically approve, and would lobby hard for this.
Maybe we could also get a "Banned Camp" image for posts from people who have been invited to that zone.
Yes, but you get only one per month and they don't carry forward.
@CuddleDuncan that is cruel. 😂 @GuyverGordon 😂😎
👍🏼
So isn't everyone here just a little bit attention starved and in need of encouragement? I'm not entirely sure what you are afraid of here. Also at some point the onus is on the users...
@ladybug7 I think the concern is CC will turn into every other social media site, where people only care about how many likes they get and are crushed when they don't get any.
Like!!!!
@WriterGF I think that implies 1. That people on other social medias were always disingenuous. Probably need to check our own cognitive biases. 2. That the responsibility of others emotions is on anyone else but that person. If people are crushed because they don't get likes 🤷🏼♀️ that's something THEY need to address. I don't see this place in danger of becoming anything like other socials. It has so many other things stopping that. I appreciate the comfort of these forums because of that. I do hope you do mind me being contrary, I don't think that the notion of someone disagreeing with you should be emotionally devastating... How will we ever learn anything new if we become so fragile that something so tiny as a like could throw you in a tailspin. I mean there was a request for it. I have often read something someone wrote or posted specifically in the music thread and wanted to just hit like because it made me happy to see it. I think this site is safe from becoming like the others.

Likewise, why does your happiness need to be validated by a like button?

There are a lot of emotionally damaged and lonely people on here I don’t think they need to be dismissed as fragile so one can have their happiness validated. I mean there are a few threads currently going that focus on these “fragile” things. If you need likes there are other sites to get it on. I could care less if someone likes my posts or not, but I do care for the people that struggle with self-esteem and self-worth that it may negatively impact.
I can imagine the DMs. "Hey , wanna swap likes?".
You know it.
@ladybug7
Maybe it implies that the manner in which social media is engineered is anathema to the spirit of this site.
What are we doing here?
Are we looking to produce lasting and significant feelings of well-being via the sustained release of oxytocin, serotonin, (and the like) that occurs with genuine human connection or will we be satisfied with microdoses of dopamine produced by a stranger’s thumb?
If you care less... Why are you then negging someone elses suggestions that could be seen as supportive. if you frame it differently? It seems as if you are trying to shame folks for just wanting something you are claiming to not care about by making up a scenario that hasn't happened. Unless I'm wrong and there is a thread about people being sad because they didn't get likes on Facebook. Sorry, it's not my intention to be snarky or anything I'm genuinely confused 🤔💭 my happiness doesn't NEED validation but isn't that another way to connect to others with like interests? Again I don't see the harm. No one is being dismissed friend I would ask that you refrain from putting words in my mouth. We ALL came here because of that and I don't agree with your interpretation of my words. You are welcome to see things how you choose I suppose. We all have our own version of the world.
A like button, I'm not fussed either way, if people start leaving comments saying "First", that's where I draw the line..........
@MonkeyNeedsAHug that makes a bit more sound sense. Like with ALL things on the Internet though... There are pros and cons. Im the type of person that sees the pros really clearly in something, before the cons. Every single inch of the Internet is double edged sword.
@ladybug7 I was having an objective discussion that you claimed to enjoy in an earlier message. I was merely flipping your viewpoint that there is another viewpoint. If you do not need the validation then why push for something that could prove detrimental to others? I guess your objectivity is subjective because I was merely making points. You misinterpreted my words as well it seems because I said I don’t care if someone likes my posts or not but I do care how it adversely affects those with mental struggles. Different story from me not caring about likes. And I never said you were being snarky, so I don’t know why you felt the need to go there. But anything someone posts will be open to interpretation—that is basic critical thinking—finding all sides to a statement. So not neggin as you say, but I will be sure not to engage in a discussion with your posts again.
But to those with an open mind that wish to know:

And anyone that wants further reading just search on line. There is tons of research regarding mental health, likes and social media and causality between them. I made the mistake of assuming this was common knowledge.
I'm opposed to a "like" button for reasons mentioned above. But sometimes comments make me really wish I could "like" them without having to respond.
@TheFunCartel Thank you for the references.
If one feels the need for a Like button, nothing stops them from responding to a post and typing "Like." Takes 10 seconds, if that.
I kind of enjoy that people that want to engage with forum threads need to reply and display a part of their personality in their own unique way but…
If there was a like or hugs dammit button, would it encourage the same social media attention seeking if the quantity wasn’t tracked per user?
You know the one thing missing from a Like button? WHY they liked it. As it is now, if someone thinks your post is funny or wise or answers a question they had, they'll let you know.
The internet is a big place with many points of view. I like everyone no matter who you are or what others say. Not everyone likes me and that's ok too. The fear may be, that we play into favorites and not really engage authentically.
What the button does or would do, is give an instant guage of current sentiment.
Patterns would become visible quickly.
I think the dislike button would spawn its own wave of charity. So I get why it isn't wanted in some circumstances.
The question is: Are we growing?
