Pockets!

Spinning this off from another thread.

We all know how wonderful pockets are. There's a couple of places where I can get dresses with pockets (if I like the pattern). https://svahausa.com/ sells STEM-themed clothing. A lot of it is too busy for my taste, but there's a few things I like. And they have plain-color dresses too. And also Hot Topic dresses tend to have pockets. I'm not much for skulls, but I like the witchy stuff and the science fiction stuff.

Though there's dresses which I like which don't have pockets. What I want for those is a small purse that uses a magnetic clasp instead of a zipper, and a small water bottle that fits inside said purse.

    Pockets!! Very pro pocket over here.

    And I’m a mom. So I do also carry a bag or 4 with me wherever I go. It doesn’t mean I don’t want pockets. Cause it’s not like I’m finding my keys or my phone in the bag(s) if I toss them in there.

    And a side note on bags, they also need more pockets, and dividers. I said in the other thread that I wasn’t into cargo pants. But I do want my bags to have pockets a plenty. Like if I turned cargo pants inside out and made them into a bag. But a stylish one.

    And big boho style bags need more structure. I get that that’s not the point of them. But I like them. But I hate that they flop.
    Yes I want it all. 🤣🤣

    In my Before Times, I would use a laptop bag. It had a shoulder strap and a lot of compartments, and no one looks twice at someone with a laptop bag.

    Personally, I think the option to add pockets should be included in the price of clothes without them 🤷🏼
    Every tag includes a coupon for a free clothes alteration at a local mending shop. 🤘🏻😂

    I love that women are starting to be heard at their requests for pockets
    More and more often over last few years I have tried in a dress or skirt or pants even and been pleasantly surprised to find pockets.

    @mauvefox for the boho bag dilemma - they do sell removable inserts for purses. I love it simply for the ease of changing bags but it also gives a lil more structure to the bottomless pit of the all so stylish boho bag

    They've started making slim fit dress shirts without pockets. Button down shirts without pockets are the devil.

    A tip for all the pocket lovers out there. If you want pockets on your favorite dresses or bigger pockets for pants. Take a piece of paper and an appropriate pocket size of desire (from a pair of jeans or something), pin the paper to 1 side of the pocket and cut off the extra paper. Now you have a template. Use the template to cut out 2 pieces of fabric of choosing. Sew them together but leave the area where it's supposed to be open, to leave open. Then choose a pair of pants or dress of choosing and seam rip out the old pocket or opening for where the pocket will go. (For dresses I choose the side seam to open up to put a pocket there) then sew the ends together with the pocket upside right. Make sure you have clean stitches and don't be afraid to make a mistake (except when cutting fabric which you should do very little of) you can always rim out the stitches and try again. 😉 If it's too much work then I can probably do it for a small fee.

    Making pockets is quite easy and doesn't take up much time. I've already did a pair of pants (even hemmed a constant wear and tear area) and a dress, even a romper

    I love pockets. For Christmas Mom used to cut holes in them so I would have something to play with.

    Christian Dior once said women have pockets for decoration and men have pockets to carry things. It's only been about 50 years we have been allowed our own bank accounts in the u.s.
    The purse is supposed to be the answer to pockets but🤷🏼‍♀️ somehow we still can't seem to get the point across to some of these designers. So until some of them or people who copy them are gone... We still are going to be fashionable and not functional. I almost bought the ugliest wedding dress because of pockets... 😆 Designers don't realize what they are missing.

    That’s a big part of the “no pockets” issue -
    design aesthetic. It was definitely more about form over function.
    Plenty of clothes on Amazon with pockets though, thank goodness. I need them also!

    But then again we can always hide weapons in our bras, they're unintentional functional "pockets" too. 😊👍

    Maybe it's all a plot to sell those designer bags...
    Also, what's up with clothes we need assistance to get in and out of? Zippers up the back? And clothes we have to fully remove, with zippers up the back, just to use the restroom? And people wonder why we have to take our friends to the restroom with us.
