@Morpheus When that situation happened, it was literally when I first started, and I didn’t really comprehend how serious the rules were. At the time I thought it was just one of those things that wasn’t a big deal. But I’ve learned my lesson and now fully understand the importance of not giving out a number to a client before an appointment. It won’t happen again.

But it has historically been a negative term ....more negative than positive anyways. And in this particular circumstance, it was definitely used in a negative way so that's why I said it was gross behavior. 🤢 But yes, I do agree that wife (and husband) should be a positive term 💯 of the time, cuz why marry (or stay married to) someone you don't like? 🤷♀️

I prefer “spouse” or “partner” as descriptors for the woman I am married to. “Wife” has too many unflattering connotations.
Huh. I've never thought that "wife" could ever be considered an insult before now. Interesting perspectives here.
I would not expect guys that have never been on the receiving end of a derogatory put down using the word to think of it negatively, but if you have ever heard a woman give examples of how it was used against them negatively it is not too hard to understand. But there are guys out there who do weaponize the word.

Many seemingly benign words can and have been weaponized and used against women and other groups.
It’s understandable you might not be aware of that if you haven’t lived/experieced/witnessed it.
But, please, when people share their experience, try not to dismiss it, minimize it, and insinuate it must not true because it does not fit your experience.
You might have been unaware/uninformed before, but now you have been provided an opportunity from a perspective that is not your own.

Even has a divorcé, I still uphold the word wife in very high regards. It describes one half of a very important institution. Thankfully, it continues to be used positively in many cornerstones of society.

@TxTom the issue was never the word “wife.” It was how it was used, to dismiss and belittle someone for asserting a basic boundary. That’s the context. That’s what I was talking about and addressing someone who had clearly missing the point of the OP.
You say you were already aware of this perspective, but your reply was all about defending the word itself, not acknowledging how it was used to belittle or control. That’s not insight, that’s deflection.
You’re not obligated to learn from someone else’s experience, but brushing it off to preserve your own ego isn’t the flex you think it is.
I’m not here to debate. I explained the reality, how words can and are used as tools of dismissal and power. If you already knew that and still chose to misrepresent it, then you’re not looking for a conversation. You’re just proving my point.
