I am on the road today making my annual pilgrimage to DragonCon (Atlanta’s version of ComiCon) where 50,000 people gather each Labor Day weekend to live out our secret lives as Jedi, storm troopers, aliens, wizards, and superheroes.
That sounds like fun! I like being around groups like that which have unique, think outside the box, just be yourself type people. How many years have you participated, @JohnR1972?
I started going to DragonCon about 10 years ago. I really didn’t know what to expect on my first trip but I was instantly hooked and have come back every year since then.
Never been. Went to SDCC for years.
@WriterGF - I’ve only been to one ComiCon and it was a several years ago in Louisville, Ky. I am sure the SD ComiCon is 100 times bigger and better. About the only thing memorable from the Louisville CC was seeing Captain Kirk, Spock, and Scotty all walk by wearing Google Glass. It was the one and only time I have ever seen anyone wearing Google Glass “in the wild”.
@JohnR1972 It was pretty insane when I was there. I was working a booth most of the day, but if you wanted to get through the crowd, you needed a machete. It may have calmed down now that so many of the big movie studios aren't going anymore.
Used to go to the Tampa Bay Comic Con. Met several of the game of thrones actors including Pedro Pascal.
Dragon con has become trendy. It is no longer about the event. It is a look at me fest. Sheep’s and clones

I didn't grow up being into comics or scifi type things but I gotta admit , I was invited one year because a friend had extra ticket and room and it really was one of the most interesting experiences. The different events and speakers etc you could sign up for were a hoot, even had a Hamilton sing along in one of the conference rooms. The costumes are really fun and I appreciated a lot of the art etc at the vendors booths. Comic nerds know how to party for sure!
I keep saying I want to go to one...
... and every year it sneaks up on me and I end up not going.🫠 Every Labor Day weekend ends up surprising me. One day, I'll be ready.
@pmvines - Me neither. I probably read 4 or 5 comic books total in my life (all around my early teens). My daughter was the one who got me into going to Cons. She wanted to go to SDCC and I told her that was too far away and too expensive but if she could find one within driving distance I would take her. A few weeks later we did our first DragonCon together.
My main memory of SDCC is signing all day. My hand would be a claw by the time I got back to the hotel.
