Sept 8, 1966 changed the world forever

I wasn't born yet, but fell in love with Star Trek as soon as I could. I was old enough to appreciate that the very first space shuttle was named Enterprise. And recently I (and the rest of the world) got to see Captain James Tiberius Kirk go to outer space, even if only for a brief time (yea, yeah, I know, his name is William Shatner, but he's always going to be Captain Kirk in my heart).

While I don't enjoy most of the newer versions of Star Trek as much as the ones I grew up with, the fact that the shows are as popular as they are so many decades later speaks volumes about the enduring values and messages of the show. When humanity sends it's first interstellar ships to travel to new stars, one of them will surely be named Enterprise (Defiant and Voyager should be there too).

Can I cuddle a Tribble now?

    Oh, hush. It's the symbolism that was important. Especially having the Enterprise Seven present when it was rolled out for the public.

    the trouble with Tribbles is that you can never cuddle "just one"

    My first intro was to next gen and patrick stewart will hold a special place in my heart as a result.

    My dad was a hard core trek fan for the original series and everything that came after. It gave us something to bond with him over when it was hard in a lot of other ways.
