Can Messages Be Delayed Hours From Sent to Received?

I am rather new to the site, but the other day I had someone sent me a message that made it seem like the message was delayed. Specifically, they greeted me with "Good Morning", but yet, I got the message in the afternoon. We aren't talking like right after noon, but hours afterwords.

Makes me wonder if the message just took a while to get to me or not

    They are going across the internet, so yes.

    My personal record for an email to myself is a week.

    But from what you describe it could just be a timezone difference.

    Were you not connected to the internet between those times? And this prob obvious but did you check the time they sent it? Sometimes I say good morning even though I woke up at noon, not saying they can't be delayed, I've had delayed messages before to but it wasn't hours behind like yours.

    I often say good morning to people all day (and night long) it's just out of habit. Most people don't look at me as funny as they maybe should when I do it.

    Mine are instant in real time. Always has been. I stay on the site during it and so does the person messaging. I can’t speak for anyone else’s experience but it could be that the other person is just taking a while to answer. I was messaging with someone just recently and it was instant.
