My Cuddle God at the book store ?

edited September 2018 in General

I spent quite a bit time at Barnes and Noble today reading about Psychotropics only to glance up to see this gorgeous man. I mean he was gorgeous, I could smell him from afar and my God that smile, my imagination went wild and took me into the most amazing cuddle of my life! Fee’s? What fee’s?

God you guys get your mind out of the gutter, my imagination stopped there and I didn’t even ask him to cuddle, forgo my fee’s and tell the man I would not only cuddle him for free, but I would pay him to let me cuddle with him!! ?

I'm not sure whether to congratulate you on having a wonderful imaginary cuddle, or console you for not being able to even ask for a cuddle without having to deal with all the assumptions the poor guy would probably (definitely?) make. Um. Congratusorry?

[P.S. Psychotropics freak me out. You're not a psychiatrist, are you?]

  • I wasn’t worried about his assumptions mine were bad enough! Typically when one asks for a cuddle that is just what they want, to cuddle. I kept what my mind would have done to this man to myself. I didn’t share those naughty thoughts here because I don’t want booted out of here and my imagination on this one would not only have only gotten me suspended, but evicted!

@DarrenWalker, no not a Psychiatrist but I have a passion for the mental health field and like to be up to date on the newest treatment options as well as the advancement of psychotropics for Bipolars and how difficult bridging is to switch when your body is so accustomed to a drug you have to figure out whether it’s worth it to bridge or keep upping the dose of your current med until you hit toxicity and have to switch anyhow. Psychotropics are pure hell for those of us taking them and as long as I am putting them into my body I want to know everything I can about them. Just because a Psychiatrist has gone to med school and studied all these drugs does not mean he/she knows what it does to MY body and I don’t take their assumptions on my mental health because all they know is what they studied and my chemistry is absolutely nothing like that of another so I need to be a self advocate and tell them what I want, not what they want. I have the illness, I deserve to choose what happens to my body, more importantly my brain.

    ...Oh dear.

I'm actually feeling sorry for the "Cuddle God" now. On the one hand it's kind of flattering, having a stranger fantasize about you—but on the other hand it's kind of creepy. Not that I don't fantasize about strangers every now and then, but, well, I do try not to. Seems like a bad habit to get into, using real people as play toys in my fantasy world without their permission.

'Course, it's not like it harms anybody. Just... seems like a flavor of thought that might cause problems if it got out of hand. Probably you've got it all under control.

Anyway, psychiatry! I'm more interested in the neurology of behavior (all sorts, not just pathological), so I don't know a lot about medications. That's an impressive field of study, I think—albeit not one I'm particularly interested in. Good luck with it! Sounds like you know where to get your books, anyway. Barnes & Noble's a great chain. I like those stores a lot.

  • @DarrenWalker
It’s not that I fantasize about them it would be no different than someone else seeing someone they thought was attractive and had an internal dialogue with their thoughts of that individual. Damn, she’s hot look at her! Or she is absolutely stunning. I have been with women and I see a gorgeous woman and it’s not that I fantasize about her but I do think, God she’s gorgeous or I love her hair, just something about her that catches your eye. Most of the time I tell that person because life is full of negativity and people need to hear others thoughts of their presence in this world. Sometimes our minds wander, it they didn’t I don’t think our hormones were working properly but I can look at either sex and be attracted without acting upon the urge, it’s only when I come on here and share it with you that it’s creepy! Hahaha ?

I love Psychology, Psychiatry and Neurology. You would be surprised how in depth studying about each shows how they open the doors for each other and knowing details about the core of one helps you understand and process aspects of another.

The medications I believe are another classification of study outside of itself and I truly believe only a person with a mental illness that has experienced those meds can truly explain the feelings you get when you are taking them and when you withdraw from them. Either way withdrawal from any Psychotropic is pure hell. Doctors study these meds and they know according to books what they do or are suppose to do according to study. Studies are ok to an extent. The only statistics I believe about a certain medication is what can it or can’t it do for my own chemical imbalance because you can put 100 people on the same medication and it will give 100 different reactions to it. Psychiatrist mean well, but they don’t know my body as intimately as I do and only I can advocate for this body and I don’t trust anyone else to do it. I know what “normal” is to me and it will never be what “normal” is to you. When you are Bipolar, when you hit the combination of meds that works for you and gets you as close to “normal” as you feel it is, you must self advocate and not let any Psychiatrist mess with your specific concoction. Psychiatric patients need to be verbal, very verbal about their treatment and don’t do something just because they tell you. Ask questions and if you don’t understand rephrase it and ask it again. It literally can make or break a person. If I break, it will be because of a decision I made and not because I trusted someone that truly knows nothing about me with my mind.

Sorry to rattle on, this is my passion!

It's perfectly normal to fantasize. I'd even say it's healthy to do so. God forbid we enter an era where it's forbidden to think certain things. I'm just wondering why you felt the need to share your fantasy on a public forum.

  • Because it’s a forum, a PUBLIC FORUM and that’s what they are for, if you didn’t care for it so be it, read it and move along. Unless your name is Mark and feels my post is inappropriate, honestly your opinion is of no interest to me. You choose your post and responses and let me choose mine. If you read in to it as much as you judged it you would see it was meant to be funny.

Was he standing in the home-improvement section, the I can cook section, or the travel section? All those skillsets make cuddling better! grin

I am sorry. If you would said something, I would have spoken to you. Didn't mean to be rude. Thanks for noticing. ;)

I just looked up, "psychotropics". My SSRI's on on the list. Interesting.

  • @galowglass psychotrolics are anything prescribed for depression anxiety or psychosis

  • I suddenly just got the urge to share another fantasy. ?

  • @DarrenWalker @CreativeCuddles Enjoy Barnes and Nobles while you can. The big box booksellers have disappeared one by one until B&N is about the last. At the same time many, many small local bookstores have failed as well. Online catalogs and libraries probably have all the same reading, but there has been something special about the giant bookstores that cannot be replaced.

@DarrenWalker I don’t think fantasizing about a passing stranger is half as creepy as fantasizing secretly abut someone you know and see often.

  • [Deleted User]DarrenWalker (deleted user)

@mickcuddle: That's dismaying. I don't dislike online catalogs, or libraries, but I'll miss the bookstores. There's something magical about them. Libraries are similar, but... not quite the same.

As far as creepiness goes, I just sort of classed all "fantasizing about real people who actually exist without their permission" as creepy and didn't think too much about gradients. I suppose secretly fantasizing about someone you know and see often would be creepier, because you have so much more opportunity to act on those fantasies. It's a good point.

I called it my imagination and now it has become my fantasy. My imagination went with me just seeing the man, someone I can’t have but i can have a 2 minute thought about, that isn’t a fantasy. Anyone that can see someone they are drawn to and not have an immediate thought about that individuals presence should have all hormone levels checked immediately! Had I envisioned him, a stacks of books, a ruler, a stool and some of the candy they sell at the front of the store, that my fellow Cuddlers is fantasy. Had it been a fantasy I would still be thinking about him not being able to let thoughts of him go. They are long gone. Now what is creepy is not my imagination, or your fear of me having thoughts that are not real, but neither imagination or fantasy are real. Is there a difference between them?

I’d just like to take a second and thank you guys for your input into my study on the difference between imagination and fantasy in the Psychological World.

  • Next time ask me, I'd b happy to start with public cuddle n chat, sit n snuggle or walk n talk / fork ;)

  • @TimmyCuddle @poolman Thank you! You guys are too cute! You know what’s funny is how we are attracted first to the exterior of individuals but leary to approach someone for fear of rejection so we deal with the unknown. He could be a full fledged cuddler and we could have hid and cuddled after hours in one of those hard tan leather chairs with the rolled piping on each arm. Cuddle there, then back to the little ones area and cuddled around all those odd little creatures the children abuse in a daily basis. Finally over to the stage cuddling, reading each other a Cat in The Hat favorite and dozing off on stage here from the cuddling and ambiance of not only the bookstore but the scent of the still lingering coffee from the Starbucks we are too tired to linger towards. Haha on I have to stop. Is that imagination? Or Fantasy?

  • @CreativeCuddles very astute observation on Psychiatry. For a psychiatric patient, there is no alternative to continuous learning and becoming an expert on oneself.

  • @Naveed it is the key to self management!

  • [Deleted User]DarrenWalker (deleted user)

@CreativeCuddles: Good morning! So, you asked if there's a difference between imagination and fantasy, and... hmm.

Well, as I understand it, imagination is representing to yourself something that isn't currently so, and fantasy is imagining something that you think isn't ever going to happen.

I kind of lack imagination. Without fiction, I just don't... dream. I tend to see things as they are, not as I'd like them to be. So I can notice people, be drawn to them, and not imagine anything. The moment is nice, and I like it. Thanks to my brain, it usually doesn't even occur to me that there might be anything more.

Pretty sure this is a neurological thing, not a hormonal one. There are asexuals who have imaginations. I've talked to some, so I know there are. They can see someone they're drawn to, have an immediate thought about what they'd like to do with that person, and still get people telling them to have their hormone levels checked! Not all attraction involves those hormones. Neither do all fantasies. Mine (the few I have) certainly don't. Also... if a fantasy does flash into my head when I see someone, I can just think about something else and the piece of never-going-to-happen imagination goes away. It doesn't take anywhere near two minutes at all, at all.

'Course, what goes on in your own head is your own business unless you make it public.

I wouldn't feel too sorry for the "Cuddle God" if you just had a quiet dream in private, but when you tell everyone about it on a public forum—well, now this guy's the anonymous star of an online production! Sort of flattering. Maybe a little creepy. I wouldn't like it much, if it were me. Maybe your "Cuddle God" would like it. Could be. Obviously some people do. And it's not like anyone's harmed, probably. I just... wouldn't do it, myself. Seems rude.

Though, again, this might just be because I have a weird brain. One never knows.

  • My sharing this is no different than anyone here sharing a story about anyone they have cuddled with because ultimately they too are also the star of an anonymous online production. I asked whether my thoughts above were fantasy or imagination I didn’t ask for judgement on my imagination nor ask for criticism on sharing in an OPEN FORUM. If my sharing the little bit about this is rude, call me rude. Someone being able to change their thought process when they see someone attractive doesn’t work for everyone if it did we would be living in a boring world. I never claimed I felt this was going to go anywhere, it was a thought, we all have them and id rather have an imagination than be able to shut down every thought I may have just because others think it shouldn’t be shared in an open forum. If you don’t have the imagination or feel it’s ok to think things about someone when you see them, do you think it’s ok to judge my posting this thought just because you wouldn’t.

  • [Deleted User]DarrenWalker (deleted user)

@CreativeCuddles: Um. I don't know... when two people meet on the same site, then in reality, then one of them talks about the other in an open forum on that site, it does seem a little different from one person talking in an open forum about someone they never even said hi to.

You asked if your thoughts were fantasy or imagination, and I said that (so far as I know) fantasy's a type of imagination: the type where you don't think it'll become reality.

You said that people like me (that is, people who can see someone they're drawn to and not have an immediate thought about that individual's presence) should have all hormone levels checked immediately, which bothered me because I hear that a lot. I'm asexual, not hormonally damaged, thanks. There is something different in me that causes the lack of mental reaction you mentioned, but it's not my hormones.

I know my brain's a bit weird, but I'd rather lack imagination than good judgment. (Hopefully I don't lack both. That'd be terrible.) What response were you hoping for when you shared? I'm still not sure, and I'd like to know so maybe I can do better next time someone posts something like this.

  • If someone were to read this and it were about them, the context is completely anonymous and as the OP said more an elaboration of something fictitious that was sparked by an emotional reaction upon first glance. So it is not really an invasion or privacy of sharing private details of somebody on a public venue so I am not sure how the argument can even be made that it is creepy or something done without ones permission. I am sure an argument can be made on just about anything but it doesn't make it true.

  • Wow. Walking around NYC when it's warm outside I see women I'd like to cuddle with all the time. Going outside right now in fact. Smile.

  • [Deleted User]DarrenWalker (deleted user)

@pmvines: Oh, I thought that was obvious. Sorry. It's a matter of objectification, more than anything else. You see someone—you know pretty much nothing about them except the way their body looks—you fantasize about that body (putting whatever personality you want inside it), and then you share that fantasy involving someone else's body, someone who never gave you permission to objectify them that way, with a bunch of other people on an open forum.

...Isn't that creepy? Or is it just me being weird again.

  • Someone seriously has too much time on their hands to put this much thought and criticism into 1 post. I never said anything about the man’s body so now we are not only judging my post, we are changing the details. You are right I shouldn’t have put this because what are the odds of a bazillion men in this world that one that specific day was in Barnes and Noble will think I was referring to them.

My thoughts of the man at the book store have faded anyhow but please feel free to continue discussing it. I’ve moved on to the woman at the grocery store this evening purchasing Perrier water and some lipstick.

Or they are a troll. There's a lot of that going around.

  • [Deleted User]galowglass (deleted user)

I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but a lot of the controverial threads are started by accounts that get banned.

Stop perpetuating those threads. Stop responding to dick-centric posts. Stop responding to posts claiming that cuddling isn't platonic. Stop responding to childish provocations. Just ignore the nitwits and help minimize the harm they want to cause. Take your desired topic and start a new thread. Then defend it and keep trolls from changing the topic or the argument.

You have to guard your sanctuary, if you value it.
    Peace

Must I truly deny my inner troll? She gets hungry sometimes and needs to feast.

Yes my inner troll is a she, deal with it. B)

  • [Deleted User]galowglass (deleted user)

When she wears cool sunglasses like B) THAT B) , she gets to feast whenever she want, I would guess.
