If your color blindness prevents you from working, I believe you would qualify for disability, not sure. And, yes, according to scientists, color blind people can have a favorite color.
There are a lot of different forms of color blindness. It doesn't usually mean you can't see any color/see in black and white. Often it's one or two colors that you can't see. One of my friends can't see red, it looks more like green.
Also, fun fact, color is highly subjective and culturally tied to languages. People from different cultures will perceive colors differently and it tends to relate to how their language uses color words.

Very difficult to respond to this without touching "politics" at large. I'll stick to the short answer.
There is absolutely no disability of any severity where you "Get a check from the government" without an immense amount of applications, paperwork, and lifelong continual re-evaluations of your condition. Acceptance of aid, be it financial or otherwise nearly universally comes with conditions and restrictions on your ability to work or provide for yourself.

It is a very commonly held belief in the public that with a disability an individual can just get a check and not have to work. When someone opens a discussion with the specific phrasing that "I heard you get a check from the government if you have X" that is immediate alarm bells. That is exactly the phrasing I always and almost only hear right before the person who said it starts to go off about fraud and making sure people really need those benefits.
I don't know for sure but it sounds like you haven't lived on SSI and taken out tens of thousands of dollars in student loans to stand on your own feet while risking your own medicaid in the process because the loans and money you were given for textbooks are income apparently.
I’ve been tested and am red/green colorblind. I have no problem seeing the color red. Green sometimes appears brown or tan.

In 1628, British Common Law banned colorblind people from having a favorite color. They're only allowed to have preferred colors. In addition, studies have shown that Cuddle Comfort is the best source for inaccurate answers about science questions.
Im color blind when it comes to green/brown mostly. Different shades of each color make me think it's different then it is. Some stuff that I think is green is brown and vise versa. It can be annoying but doesn't stop me from working, it's mostly a clothing color thing for me which is why I mismatch clothing color sometimes 😂
The correct term is “color vision deficiency.”
I have a color vision deficiency. I see in color, not black and white. Certain shades of green and orange look the same to me. My assumption is that the world is more vibrant than how I see it.
There are theories that color vision deficiencies are part of the evolutionary process where a color vision deficiency would help hunters see their game.
CVD can be considered a disability under the ADA. I don’t consider my CVD a disability at all.
