Why does everyone sexualize cuddling?

Why do people have trouble keeping it platonic?

Your question assumes facts that are not in evidence. Where is the evidence for the assertion that "everyone" sexualizes cuddling?

@katvs This is where a LOT of people turn this question around and act like they are trying to explain their question, but in reality it's when they start to tell us (this community), the answer to the question. It usually involves the questioner trying to put labels on platonic and labels on the community. We see it a lot.

You would really need to seek out people, privately, that are non-platonic-huggers, because there is no convenient list of people who would violate the community guidelines and then announce the fact.

I know I am putting words into the mouths of the community, but we can't answer this question because we are here for platonic cuddles.

    Peace

  • @katvs - what evidence do you have to support your hypothesis? Why should we give you a reason for something unless we know that something exists.

  • They don't

Obviously she doesn’t literally mean everyone. I get the frustration though.
Let’s at least acknowledge that yes, there are many people here who have sexual intentions and hide behind the word platonic online, but during meet ups, end up being boundary pushers because in the end they dont want platonic cuddling.
The only way to deal with a problem is to face it, not ignore it and pretend that every single person here is actually platonic.
Perhaps male cuddlers do not see it as often as women do?

@katvs do not let these users discourage you. I have personally dealt with cuddlers who want to turn things sexual, and your concerns are completely valid.

All men are jerks. All women are nuts.

    Can I get an Amen?!

@Kaiwoods, I understand you want to be supportive of OP, but I think you may be misreading this one.

First no one has suggested that every single person here is actually platonic. There have been countless threads on these forums lamenting the bad behavior of people who behave badly. If OP simply wants to vent about some bad experiences she has had, then so be it, that's her right But she didn't do that. She asked a question to which I presume she wanted an answer. And that question was based on a "fact" that is in dispute. The fact that several of us spoke up to say so is perfectly reasonable. "Everyone sexualizes cuddling" is in no way equivalent to "there are many people here who have sexual intentions." If the purpose of OP's post is to foster discussion, then language matters.

You asked if "perhaps male cuddlers do not see it as often as women do." Not sure if you're suggesting her problems are with men. If you look at OP's profile, you will see that she 1) just joined in August, and 2) cuddles only women. It therefore seems unlikely she's had the opportunity to run into a lot of male misbehavior from this site.

I'm not convinced that this is about anyone's valid concerns so much as it is about a writing assignment she's trying to get us to complete for her. OP is 19-years old. Her first post said she was writing an article about cuddling, and wanted to know why pro cuddling has become so popular of late. Her second post is this one, asking the provocatively worded question about why "everyone" sexualizes cuddling. Her third post, consisting solely of a headline and an emoji, is asking people to contribute tales of funny experiences they've had while cuddling. I think all three posts are about fodder for her article/blog post/homework assignment.

  • @Kaiwoods - The OP is a reporter gathering material for an article, not a frustrated cuddler. She has no "concerns," merely looking for other people's opinions.

Oops, didn’t see her other threads.

I’d like to add that even when I was identifying as a lesbian, I got plenty of unwanted male attention (in general).
So to me, just because she says she’d only cuddle women, does not necessarily mean she hasn’t gotten any male misbehavior. If she was a real user, I’d hope you’d give her a little more credit.

    @quietman775 , @galowglass , @pmvines and @BlueIris

You 4 seem like enthusiasts as you are very active in the forums.

I just have one question. Where do you find the time? Lol

  • @sheeds It's easy. I just had to give up sleeping! ;-)

  • I have 2 jobs work 7 days per week and am a full time single dad to a teen on the autism spectrum. If you want a social life you have to work at it however you are able.

  • I don’t know if any of you ever had any experience with CraigsList personals when they existed. There was one section of postings called “Strictly Platonic.” And somewhere in the documentation it defined Platonic as “transcends sexual desire.” That’s what it said, though certainly not a complete definition. The problem was that most of the people (largely male) who didn’t know the meaning of “platonic” didn’t know what “transcends” means. And some got it but didnt care.

Split brain. Half is hardwired through a heavy-duty firewall to the Internet, with "Active Post" (tm) - Auto-spew Ghost Editor. (grin) I'm only offline when my batteries are recharging.
