What are you addicted to?

I think lack of touch in modern society can create a lot of bad neural pathways in the brain.

I think humans are naturally sensation seeking, the lizard brain wants food, shelter, and most of all comfort.

We develop maladaptive coping mechanisms because we don't have our need for touch met.

I'm addicted to fast food and smoking weed because I have this empty void in my soul. I want to change these things about myself and quit both. Do any of you also struggle with addiction?

Used to be an addict. No more! I was chasing dreams that don't take a foothold in my life. Cuddling can be addictive too. So you have to monitor yourself. Observe.

The last addiction I got over is my need to have relationships like a drug. Living on the dopamine hits. The rise and fall of nervous system spikes. Unable to manage the space that naturally occurs when I fall for some special other.

Hobbies, projects, and healthier addictions of passions (like hiking, gym for me) are the baby steps you can take to replace your unhealthy ones. The key is something you can grow in your life. For some people? A little garden they can grow.

Speaking of. Treat your life as a garden. Healthy things in your life grow over time. They don't rise and fall, leading you to a crash.

Sit with yourself and express gratitude. Know you are loved. Most people have at least someone that loves them. If that doesn't include the love you have for yourself... well that's a journey in itself.

There's plenty to do my friend! Just need to find it and push ourselves out into sometimes uncomfortable spaces. Only then does our garden expand.

    Very wise, mature outlook.

  • @Darkeyed_male Thank you. I have a lot of love and healing that came from my personal journey of being... well, addicted to many things and even people 😅

  • God, family, good health, and cuddling

  • @pmvines As a fellow hoodie enthusiast Velour Garments 1000gsm hoodie is the best winter hoodie investment I've ever made. No tags, 100% cotton, SUPER heavyweight, and thick enough where I don't even have to wear a coat most days with it on.

My favorite hoodie to date and I own A LOT.

  • It sounds cliche because of this site, but Im TRULY ADDICTED to the intimacy of cuddling.
I think that is a very sad statement because I have so much to be thankful and grateful for, by my addiction is intimate and affectionatr platonic cuddling

  • I can tell the signs of cuddle addiction by seeing the addict’s inner lair…the lo-fi playlist, the cosmic universe projector, the candles, and the obsessively clean bed linens. Other signs are various onesies hanging in the closet, the Cuddle Sutra in the bathroom, their laptop propped open to the glow of the Cuddle Comfort website emanating from the screen, and the overpopulation of pillows from their Pillow of the Month membership. The addiction is real for many and it speaks to the modern horror of social isolation.

I can help break the cycle of cuddle addiction but no one seems to want to end their addiction to touch even though I possess many techniques such as under the covers Dutch oven therapy.

  • Cuddling and yapping lol

  • You're not alone my friend. Recognizing it is an amazing win. You got this 🧠💪

I'll need to check that one out , though I admittedly prefer the lighter to mid weight ones, I admit a good heavy durable one thats not too bulky and is comfy is worth it's weight in gold 🥇

  • When I was younger, a man told me that most men are going to be addicted to 1 of 3 things: smoking, drinking, or women.

I don’t know how much I agree with that, but I don’t smoke or drink.

  • Day Trading and Louboutins😭 I literally just bought another pair

  • Health, dancing and cuddling

  • I've developed a gratitude habit in the last decade. There are no side effects, so I'm not even trying to quit.

  • Looks like I’m addicted to cuddling

  • Good omens fanfiction

  • I'm not sure I would call it an addiction but I love the smell of saw dust while I'm out in my shop working as well as the smell of burning powder when I'm on the range.

  • Carbs and sugar. I can and have stopped the latter, at times, but I have never seemed to be able to get a handle on the former.

  • @SunsetSnuggles Carbs are so delicious though. Hope I'm not being the devil on yout shoulder saying this. Though I manage my eating habits (everyday is a strategy), carbs bring me such joy. Love pastries, ice cream, chocolate, chips and dip.

  • @Huggycatbear
It's the comfort factor, for me. Emotional eating. Pasta, bread, pastries, yes... They do, in fact, make me feel better. I wish they didn't. 🫣

Good point! Our relationship with food is so important. I was an emotional eater too. Sometimes we have to break-up with our food and come back together.

I have a snack cabinet that beckons me all the time lol. And for some reason even though I haven't eaten at Micky Ds for years, it still calls out to me. And Taco Bell 😠

  • @Huggycatbear
Yeah, I like the "crowding out" method, where in contrast to telling yourself "I can't have that", you fill your fridge/plate with healthy additions, which just naturally eclipse the unhealthier ones. So instead of focusing on deprivation, you're focusing on healthy abundance.
