Lonely on NYE

edited December 2025 in General

Offering an internet hug 🫂 to you if you’re alone on this holiday and wish you weren’t. It sucks. But you’re still wonderful.

I’m in the same boat. Just trying to remember that the negative self talk isn’t based in reality, and that there are some really great things in my life, even some recent great things that I can hold onto and bring into the new year. And where there’s not great things, there’s great potential.

Anyway, a hug for you if you’d like one 🫂

Edit: and now I feel super cringey for posting this, but I’ll leave it up in case it helps someone feel better 🤷‍♂️

Hugs going out to you! That is a very healthy perspective. 😊

Thank you and the same back to you. This has been a rough holiday season and I will take every hug I can get.

  • @IT_Teddybear surprise, here’s another one for ya 🫂

  • I think giving weight or importance to holidays is something I try avoid. I try to find joy in the everyday. Not trying to diminish your experience, and I definitely had an isolating holiday. Worked a ton of hours on the psych ward. Anyways Hugs and Joy to you @Comet85 ! And to anyone else who could use a bit more to fill up your cup a bit

  • Being lonely on party evenings is under-rated. I was once at a New Year's Eve party at my sister's house, and she and her flatmates were very keen that there should be dancing. The floor was cleared and appropriate music played, but of course nobody would be first. She lined me up and said 'get the dancing started' so I found a suitable girl, started talking to her (which went ok) and after a bit suggested we take the plunge. She stared at me for half a second, burst into proper tears, ran out of the room, grabbed her coat and ran out of the house howling. I was the object of much suspicion for the rest of the evening and I had a truly rotten time.

Anyway, turned out months later she was pregnant, wasn't supposed to be, hadn't told anybody, didn't know what to do, and didn't know if it was safe for her to be dancing. (This was pre-internet.) My unfortunate invitation was just the bomb in the dam.
