Favorite international television show

I was messaging another member on here and we turned to my scuba diving lessons and why I would ever want to considering the expense and the fact that I live in a four season environment that is totally landlocked. Off the top of my head I just mentioned it was a bucket list item for me to swim the oceans of the world, explore the beauty and fearsome depths.

But as I thought about it more I realized I have wanted to try that ever since I was a child watching Jacques Cousteau's National Geographic. Such an awe inspiring show that was, especially for a small town Midwest girl who's only worldview at that time was dairy country. It started me thinking about the other shows that we may have all seen and enjoyed in each country represented here. Keeping Up Appearances, Benny Hill, Monty Python, Wild Kingdom, Sesame Street, Dr Who!, WWE wrestling, haha. Jack Hanna's Adventures, Steve Irwin , Crocodile Hunter!! :D :D

So what did you live for as a child, or young adult that we would all know? Or just your favorite English TV show. Have fun, I'm excited to see the answers.

    I lived in England as a child and used to enjoy a show from Canada called "Forest Rangers" (photo of cast below). It was set in rural Canada. It would be considered very old fashioned today as all the adults were very kind and all the kids were respectful, polite and helpful. Some of the episodes are available on Youtube.
    Other favourite TV shows were "Riviera Police" set on the French Riviera, and Hawaii Five-O set in Hawaii. I also loved "Rhoda" with Valerie Harper and Mary Tyler Moore (who I thought was the perfect American woman). From that show, I developed a fascination with New York City and I eventually moved there.

    My mother and I used to watch Keeping up Appearances on PBS. I love that show. Long suffering husband Richard, Hyacinth and her candlelight suppers and the poor relatives she won't talk about except her sister Violet who's married to Bruce the accountant who has a large house, jacuzzi, mercedes and 'room for a pony' lol Hyacinth keeps getting herself and everyone else in a mess because she wants to 'keep up appearances. I was so tickled to find it on Amazon Prime and love watching it and Are you Being Served. Hilarious!

    @iamkimmyp - my favourite episode of Keeping Up Appearances was called 'Riparian Entertainments'. It was hilarious. Also, the one where she had a security alarm installed which sounded like the foghorn of an ocean liner.

    @UKGuy i dont recall riparian entertainments i need to look for that one. The one with the alarm if i remember correctly their anniversary date was the code for the alarm and Richard forgot it. ?

    In Australia they had lots of British comedies on TV in the 80s: Monty Python, The Goodies, Kenny Everett, an irish comedian called Dave Allen. Very silly stuff (in a good way!).

    And science fiction series like Dr Who, Red Dwarf, Blake's Seven ...

    I have a soft spot for period dramas, my favourite of all time is Downton Abbey. There's a movie coming soon! =) I'm so excited; I didn't want the show to end.

    @Catloaf Oh, me too! I cried, I laughed, I threw things!! Haha

    @UKGuy I will have to look for that, just because so many Canadian actors have gone on to large success it'd be interesting to see if any of them got their start in this show.

    @respectful Oh yes. I never got the humor of Monty Python when I was young but than I was a midwestern girl not having the benefit of people near me with dry humor. Doctor Who from the 80's I think was really the best! Some things really can go on too long.
