Ready, set, go
I USED to really like my Apple Watch for the health features… until Apple decided they know better than me about how I want to use it.
I used to be able to turn on “Do Not Disturb” (I left it on DND about 90% of the time). Now, Apples AI decides which alerts I should get even though I have the watch set to Do Not Disturb AND I have turned off the “smart breakthrough” option that allows AI to decide what I should be notified about even though I turned off notifications because I don’t want to get ANY notifications when I am sleeping.
I am about ready to go back to a mechanical watch.
Texting at places I can't pull my phone out easily tbh. The health features suck for me, I use a ring for the steps and exercise records but the watch allows me to text and control music I'm listening to great
I use it only to check how many steps I take a day. Trying for 10,000/day. 🙏
I gave my smart watch away to my ex because she wanted it more than me.
HR and zone workout breakdown. I know it’s not completely accurate, gives me an idea during workouts
I use it to track health goals like calories spent/Standing hours and steps. Stop watch/timer b/w workout sets. Entertain kids changing backgrounds especially they like micky mouse. and most importantly to find my phone
I check the time.
The notifications.
Esp since at work we can't look at our phones while on service. But I want to get into my prime and listen to music so my watch will show the two-factor code.
But then sometimes it just gives a sensitive info notification and I can't seem to stop that, even after I adjust my app and phone settings.
Check time and hatch my eggs for Pokemon Go. 😬
Activity and sleep tracking. Finding my phone; a problem that did not exist until I got a watch that received all my notifications 😅
Walking along roads with the flashlight on so drivers can see there’s a person there. Checking the weather so I wear the right amount of layers. Banging it into corners that I take too sharply. Stuff like that.
Looking for more ideas for Apple Watches.
I like being able to see date/time/weather on my watch, and I like to be able to preview notifications without looking at my phone. The Pixel Watch 1stGen was only like $90 last November
Finding my phone! And taking messages and phone calls sometimes. Checking my sleep patterns and steps. Asking Gemini.
My boyfriend's sister offered to get me one for Christmas. I said no thank you.
The phone is plenty enough for me. I used to wear a real watch back in 2011, but got sick of it getting dirty at work, same as all my rings. 💍 Not worth the upkeep.
Technology is already invasive enough, I don't feel drawn to the idea of having a piece of it strapped to my body at all times. Just me though, I totally understand why a ton of people find them very convenient.

I use the health aspects of the watch and it is linked to all the health portals at the hospital and my various physicians. I am frequently in multiple cities or time zones in a week for work so I use the weather info as well. There are a few other things too. The watch has grown on me and for it helps as motivation to push to higher limits on conditioning because there are numbers there and records to break everyday.
But as @JohnR1972 pointed out, with every new update the AI has become more intrusive and my relationship status with my watch is tenuous at the moment. I am capable of making my own decisions and I know what I want.
I use mine to check the time and it’s mainly just a fashion piece. I’ve never found much use for it. I really would like to find some better uses for it though.
The step counter, the clock, and an alarm is all a watch NEEDS to do. The rest is just a money grab by corporate America! I bought my smartwatch for $30 5 yrs ago and it still serves it’s intended purposes today!
Mostly tracking my calories burned during workouts (walk, run, swim, elliptical, weight training, hiking), as well as tracking steps. I've used the heart rate monitor/ECG check a few times when I was having palpitations. Lastly, it's nice to adjust my alarm from my watch so I don't have to look at my phone when I'm trying to stay asleep. 😁
@PixiePassions Trying to stay asleep when alarms go off is very important. 😁
Track steps, alarms, timers, calendar, notifications so I don’t have to keep my phone on me, and my daughter has Type 1 so I use it to easily check her BG as well.
@SpaceGoat The BG is a fantastic tool. I had kidney surgery caused by Type 1 when I was 6 and this is a truly amazing tool to download all the readings to the watch and it also links to portals at the physicians office.
I use it mainly to check the weather or the time. But most recently, I’ve started to take pictures on a timer.
When I had one, I used to to keep track of time, text messages, steps per day, heart rate, and sleep. I got really lucky that it would last about two weeks per charge, because it was pretty cheap. Havent replaced it since, just haven't felt the need to.
@CozyWithJay Do you mean your watch takes pictures at specific intervals? Is it a safety thing? Just curious! 😊
I wear it so I can conveniently look at it every minute when I am speaking with someone who drones on about minutiae.
Closing my rings and checking my heart rate. I'm a simple animal easily motivated by gamification! I know it's spying on me, but all technology is now. We are exposed.
I have a more basic smart watch that tracks heart rate for the last 4 hours (semi useful for seeing how well you slept). I mostly use it for an indication of what time it is, and for the vibration alerts that I'm getting a call or text message since I tend to work in noisy environments. I have a lot of the other alerts turned off.
I bought five smart watches. I have a lot of time on my hands now.
To track the sun mostly multiple times a day …
For the time when I don’t want to reach into my pocket for my phone For the timer (Pomodoro for focus, other activities like cooking)
Definitely for the health features. And it’s nice to get texts when I have my phone down.
