Signal - a perfect app !?

It is very common to exchange ph# once a session is established. How many of you are using Signal instead of texting? Signal is similar to Whatsapp, but hides your number from others.

It has one great benefit:
You don't have to share your personal number.(There is a setting to hide your number). People know you by username.

I installed after a cuddler said that she uses only Signal. After using it, I felt like, "wow.. This is it. Why cuddle community is not using it!".

Let's see how many people are using it or tried it in the past.

    If I put on my moderator hat for a minute, I just hate it. If something does go wrong, it does not protect you.

    If you care about your own safety - please politely decline requests to communicate via Snapchat, telegram, signal, or any apps where messages can disappear without your control. Dozens of potentially dangerous folk are walking around here only because they convinced the other unsuspecting cuddler to use an unsafe app - and in some cases actually met them and did bad things - only to zap the entire communication later.

    Seems like every time I watch a child predator video on YouTube they are using Signal to communicate and exchange explicit kiddie images with others

    Signal attracts those with bad intentions because of its secrecy. Kind of like private islands in the middle of oceans

    Yeah I really wanted to point that out myself , but there are cry babies on here who scour the forums looking for posts from people who don't play for their team to report for being "political" so I thought I'd try to hold my tongue so the mods aren't inundated with reports from said cry babies

    It's completely unecessary. I have booked and completed sessions without ever exchanging phone numbers. All messaging was kept on site.

    This is not political. My point falls under true crime. But I understand the point of preserving the moderators’ sanity.

    Most of the people I've spoken to about it use a google voice number and I just recently got one myself.

    Anything can be twisted into a political narrative when they try hard enough. Like every day literally existing and experiencing is influenced by what's happening to this country. Walking down the street is political for some folks. It's impossible to escape it. Not being able to mention current events or talk about what's going on outside our doors without being scrubbed and timed out for being political is a hard line to walk for me personally,so I rarely comment on anything other than music and pics of my animals lol. Hating the world while maintaining a smile is a lot of work, but at least we have emojis 😊 😂 🌈

    @pmvines I hear you and I know where you are coming from and how personal it is for you and a lot of us. My hope is one day I can tell younger people that I was a part of something really good that was flushed down a toilet, went into a sewer and came out the other side clean. Before now, not too many people could say that outside of Andy Dufresne. Problem is we are stuck in the main septic tank trying to help each other keep the sh@t out of our eyes.

    Staying positive is a full time job with little training.

    Second moderator chiming in: always leave a paper trail cuddlers. Not only for reports, but to protect yourselves. Do not go somewhere with no evidence of where you are or who you’ve talked to.

    I love signal, it's my main social network right now... but I don't text clients on there unless I already know them in person and they're trying to get plugged in to mutual aid efforts or something

    Any cuddler that’s ever tried the signal route with me I've noticed has been quickly banned for one reason or another. Very sketchy app for the type of community we have here.

    If there’s really a crime that goes down from a pro and someone files a popo report I’m assuming CC would have to comply with giving them their true identity, but other than that…….

    Not a fan of those apps but to each his own….

    The objective of the post was to share an alternative to communicate with someone you met here. I didn't think about safety aspect of an app like Signal, until i see people raised that point. So we are saying an app like Signal does not leave a digital trail and hence it is not safe. My point is that phone numbers too have the same safety issue if the number was not purchased from a traditional mobile service provider. How do you know if a phone number your cuddle buddy has given to you is not a VOIP number or a google voice number from a fake gmail account? They are hard to trace too.
    (Technically, all the digital communications can be traced, be it google voice, Signal, etc..etc.. it all depends on how bad one wants to dig deeper).

    If someone is particular about privacy then they should just stick to this platform's messaging service and accept a slight discomfort in communication.

    @summerson This is why the site and many of the pros stick to the site until they know the person. And you are required to stay on site until the session is booked.

    I use signal to talk to a few friends that prefer it but I won’t use it for any other reason certainly not for the cuddle community in my opinion

    Insisting on disappearing messages is not merely a red flag but a dealbreaker. Hiding your phone number is also a dealbreaker, which makes Signal particularly unsafe in the cuddling world.

    Whatsapp is the market standard in most countries. It does have disappearing messages as an option, but it's not the default. There is no reason to use anything else. Indeed, there is barely a reason to use that since you can do it all on the site, which is the safest way.

    Lots of people use Google voice numbers and they seem to work fine.

    To answer your question @summerson, people don't use Signal because doing so is foolish to the point of being dangerous.

    I finally broke down and got Signal a couple years ago, at my friends' requests.

    Most of these messaging systems are all the same, nothing new under the sun...from Yahoo Instant Messenger and MSN back in the day, to Skype, then Zoom... Every time a new program or app comes out, people freak as if it's a revelation, but the fact is, Zoom brought not one new thing to the table. It simply got famous during Covid.

    Same concept as MySpace and Facebook, Craig's List and Facebook Marketplace, Vine and TikTok, Yelp and Google reviews.

    le shrug I only have contacts on Signal that I know in person, and have known for 3 years, up to 14 years. I really dislike the format, same as I dislike Discord. But it's some peoples' very strong preference, so I cater to them.

    On occasions when I want to connect with cuddlers in real-time, I give them a Google Voice number. This typically has nothing to do with meeting...it's about our style of communication, and how excitedly we click. If waiting for long PM's is too tedious, instant messages can be nice. But they are definitely not a necessity for meeting anyone. Notifications with pop-ups can be turned on for this site.

    I encourage everyone to use a burner number such as Google Voice or a MySudo number instead of giving out their primary cell phone number on CC. If something happens and a police report is filed, the accused can be tracked down through these numbers. However, these numbers provide a degree of anonymity to their users.

    If a woman gives her real cell phone number to someone, in less than 60 seconds that person can have her full name, age, marital status, current and former addresses, email address, a list of relatives, social media profiles, and employment history. I believe it is reasonable for anyone to take precautions to prevent divulging all the personal data associated with their real phone number.

    As for using WhatsApp, Meta (parent company of WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook) is being sued in U.S. District Court over allegations of reading people’s supposedly private messages.

    I like signal because it doesn't use end to end to end encryption.

    I haven't heard of this particular app, but due to a crazy stalker incident several years ago when I was still attempting to date, I started using a texting apps such as TextMe and TextFree. Send and receive text from an alternate number, if things go sideways with someone you are talking to, just switch to a new number and no worries about them sending you messages from different numbers.

    Why don't ya'll get a google voice number if you don't want to give out your main phone #? Its easy and free.
