Best video game soundtrack...

...has got to be Chrono Trigger. This is the music being played on a violin.

  • Ugh I loooove chrono trigger (and I’m kinda biased because of DBZ) lol

For me, I have a few. I can’t pick one.

    Secret of mana

    Final fantasy 7

    Legend of LeGaia

  • Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

  • Uncharted series

    Tony Hawk’s Underground (classic!)

  • Galaxy new radio in fallout 3
Honorable mention to fallout 4 and 76

Anything Nobuo Uematsu. Special shoutout to the OST for Final Fantasy XI (multiple composers)

  • Dialga's Fight to the Finish - (Pokémon Mystery Dungeon - Explorers of Sky)

  • @SleepySheep1 oh man the elite 4 and champion themes for Gen 1-3 of the core series Pokémon games 🤌🏽

  • My list. I cant only pick one.

    Chrono Trigger
    Nier Automata
    Kingdom Hearts games
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
    Fallout video game series

  • A few I love:

    Lost Odyssey
    Nier: Automata
    Stellar Blade
    Expedition 33

  • Interstate '76 - awesome 70's funk soundtrack

  • @SleepySheep1 OMG! I love that track. I actually found a really sick remix of it a few months ago on Spotify.

I'd recommend soundtracks of the following:
    Matt Hoffman's Pro BMX 2
Fire Emblem Engage / Three Hopes / Three Houses
    Pokemon Black / White

  • Been playing through Neon White and so far it has a pretty good soundtrack. One of my favorite tracks from the first level of the game, which is more of a Drum & Bass track.

  • Haven’t played any in a minute

First that came to mind was Super Mario RPG

    Then Chrono Trigger

First that came to mind was Super Mario RPG

Classic! I love that game so much.

  • My boyfriend says Silent Hill...

I hardly played anything. 🫤 My top is obviously Super Mario Bros...

Then I'm wayyy on the other side of the planet, with these nostalgic beats from Need for Speed Underground. 🚘🚦😂

For ambience I can listen to ad infinitum, Minecraft is hard to beat.

    Cuphead really swings, though.

    Just one example:

  • I'm a bit biased because a lot of it is variations of rock and jazz (my favorite genres), but Mario Kart World is definitely my current pick for the best. Especially for the arrangements of previous songs. The way they reworked every track into a variety of styles that are sometimes completely different from the original is incredible, and the musicians are really talented and have awesome solos in a lot of them. Here are links to some of my favorites:

Gnat Attack (Level 1) - Mario Paint
File Select - Super Mario 64
Waluigi Pinball/Wario Stadium - Mario Kart DS
Rainbow Road - Mario Kart Wii
Volcano BGM - New Super Mario Bros. Wii

It was so hard not to put like 20 links there lol

    Castlevania: Symphony of the NIght

Also: Chrono Trigger was great, but you can't sleep on Chrono Cross either.

  • I love Chrono Trigger/Cross (Yasunori Mitsuda) and the Nier series (Keiichi Okabe) but climbing up the ranks fast is the music from the Octopath Traveler series (Yasunori Nishiki). Oh yeah Final Fantasy XIV (Soken) is also fire. I could go on and on. And that's all just Square Enix too. Jake Kaufman and the Shovel Knight series is god tier too.

  • @Goonie4life I love the music from that game! Especially the brambles level music.
    @disneysamurai I love the soundtracks from Megaman X 1 - 5 (but 1 and 2 being my favorites)

I'd also have to say some of my all time favorite video game soundtracks are from Super Mario RPG, Legend of Mana, and Brutal Legend.

Can't forget this lovely song though 😜:
    lol j/k

Chrono Trigger will always be my favorite JRPG of all time, so major points to you!

I’m a huge supporter and advocate for the impact of a good soundtrack, primarily as it not only (when does well) sets the mood and atmosphere perfectly, but can work outside of the context of where it’s used.

Some other good ones are Final Fantasy VII, Star Ocean 2, Lost Odyssey, Expedition 33. Squaresoft(Enix) used to be the undisputed king of them.

Outside of RPGs, Silent Hill 2 and the OG Resident Evil 2 had incredible ambience.

  • Oh yeah also the soundtracks for Hades and Hades 2. Darren Korb is fantastic.

  • For me it’s:
    1. Expedition 33
    2. Hades

  • No votes for Late Goodbye by Poets of the Fall? It's a soundtrack for Max Payne 2.

  • ^^Genuinely one of my favourite songs from one of my favourite albums. So hyped for the MP2 remake, if it ever resurfaces again haha.

Expedition 33 and the Ace Combat series, off the top of my head. The Nier series as well!

Zero (Ace Combat Zero) - Composed by: Keiki Kobayashi, Hiroshi Okubo, Tetsukazu Nakanishi, Junichi Nakatsuru

    Une vie à t'aimer (Expedition 33) - Lorien Testard · Alice Duport-Percier · Victor Borba

Weight of the World (Nier Automata) - Keiichi Okabe
