    For the Frequently Asked Questions I had a good think about the actual benefits I've received from cuddling. Here is what it ended up saying:

    Cuddling gives a sense of connection with other human beings. It can be therapeautic, comforting and healing, reduce stress and help people sleep, increase confidence (especially in interacting with the gender you cuddle with), help with people's body image, relieve depression and anxiety, communicate a sense of being accepted and valued, and leave a peaceful feeling that can last for days or weeks.

    Feeling valued is a big one for me. When my body is treated well, I feel treated well, which impacts me pretty strongly.

  • Please define 'frequent'. Is that several times a week? Once a week? Once a month?

    Personally I have experienced am improved self-image. Repeat cuddling with the same person means that person enjoys what I have to offer, and my weight is not as much of an issue as I thought in overall social acceptance. I constantly thank her because I am just amazed that someone would want to be that close to me.

    @respectful, well said..

    @ukguy, keeping it open ended with regards to frequent as everyone has their own threshold. Maybe better word probably was filling cuddles or something to that level

  • I have experienced assurance and acceptance through cuddling. One of my favorite sayings is Fake it til ya Make it. I am a companion to many people going into scary situations, well and end of life situations also. One or more of us may be scared but I have found that when I have someone with me I need to be strong for that person and in turn their appreciation of my small assistance makes me feel like my life isn't so awful or messed up. I have experienced Mood, Lifestyle, and Social benefits from cuddling.

    I have also seen the health benefits of cuddling as a hospice caregiver. Even when the person is beginning to live more in the beyond than the present, little real interaction either speaking, assisting with repositioning, or eating, just beginning to become constantly rigid and checked out. When I person comes in and starts talking I have watched the dying person visibly relax, and try to reconnect with the world. That person goes to the bed and starts touching and talking, very intimate and close. That sort of touch causes a visible change in the patient. So it does have amazing health benefits also.

    @PaulaDahla , thanks for sharing! I totally agree on the health benefits aspects. I have experienced them personally!

  • A lot of wisdom here. I agree with @respectful that cuddling "gives a sense of connection" and "feeling valued." I thought @creedhands comment regarding an "improved self image" was insightful. And @PaulaDahla includes feeling "assurance and acceptance."

    In many of my chats with @BlueIris we've touched on that physical response, post-cuddle, where one may experience an "oxytocin high for a day or two after your cuddle." I didn't quite believe it until I experienced it myself!

    When I'm cuddling frequently I feel a lot less anxiety in general. I also find it an excellent source of pain relief when my health condition is playing up. I feel safe and able to unwind a bit and just be me rather than the strong caretaker role I have to take on in my day to day life. My muscles cramp less and I sleep better.

    I got a girlfriend ?
    Weve been friends for like 2 years (longest ive ever known anybody), seen her with partners, seen her in the better and the worse times.. I never cuddled with anyone or was in a relationship, i felt so touchstarved and we cuddled, after a month we got together xD

    I definetly feel way better, its so nice to have physical contact with somebody (bonus points if its someone you know well and trust!!)

    After a cuddle, I feel like a reset button has been pressed. Similar to what maybe meditation provides? An hour of calm, relaxed contact and positive discussion really does the trick.
    And don't underestimate the power of the trust each of you gives the other as a big deal. Whether she's allowing me into her home or I'm allowing her into mine, that's big. Trusting each other to touch or hold or massage or whisper - it's those elimination of 'normal' barriers that make it special.
