Too Much Olive Oil!

I love putting olive oil on my food and especially love going to places like Italian restaurants where you can dip the bread in olive oil. For the longest time I was drowning food in olive oil and it was bliss but good lord I didn’t realize you should only be consuming about a tablespoon or two per day - or I did but ignored the warning not realizing how you can easily add over 1000 calories to your meals with olive oil. I’m also hesitant to eat out for this reason other than maybe on the weekends or on occasion, which is good because eating out is expensive.

Anywho just thought I’d ramble. How do you use olive oil?

  • I only use oil and vinegar on my salad. I have olive oil at home. I just found out Cracker Barrel stop offering it , I was bummed out about it. I love the salads at Olive Garden.

  • Ugh I love bread with balsamic vinegar and olive oil lol I’ll get a baguette once in a blue moon and go to town with it 😂😂

  • I cook with it all the time, just am mindful about how much I use ... moderation is the magic word for this.

I mean, it's better than lard, or smothering everything in ranch..I'm sure you'll be ok. We have microplastics in our testicles, enough air pollution exposure to cause lung disease and cancer, and tiny little worms we can't see that live in our eyebrows. And I won't even bring up the state of the country right now because, politics. Olive oil is pretty benign thing to worry over.

  • I've heard that olive oil is one of the worst things, and I've heard it's one of the healthiest things. Always frustrating when the experts tell us different things, but advice cycles every few decades just like fashion trends, eh?

I cook with distilled water, and in cases where that would make the food soggy, I use avocado oil.

  • The problem with too much olive oil is you develop a Popeye fetish.

  • Olive oil is brilliant. You can tell it's good for you because people have been eating it for thousands of years.

But, like most oils and fats, it's about 9 calories per gram, which adds up faster than you were hoping. Protein and carbohydrate are about 4 calories per gram. Multiply grams by 28.3 to convert to ounces.

  • I imagine it's best to eat whole foods to get your fats, but if you're lacking fats it's better to have some olive oil to get them than not but only have as much as your body needs.

But as someone mentioned before there is a lack of good information for Olive oil. What I said is just generally good advice for nutrition.

If calories are a concern then yeah, any oil can really add them on.

  • Fun fact about olive oil: real olive oil has a harvest date on the bottle.. if there is no harvest date it more than likely has lower quality oils. Happy cooking everyone😸

  • Has to be healthier than crisco or most vegetable oils in a spray can. Depending on the dish I'm cooking I use olive, grapeseed, or sesame oil.

  • I thought you said "on my foot" instead of on my food and had a weird idea of you at Olive garden.

  • I like it for a salad to make a vinaigrette. I don’t like cooking with it though. I don’t prefer the taste of eggs with it, I’d rather use butter.

I have had some that had flavors in it. They were really good. I don’t remember the brand, but it was a speciality shop that made lots of flavors. Very, very good.

I love it with hummus and pita. Dated a man from Bosnia and a favorite snack was hummus with olive oil, feta, roasted tomatoes, Kalamata olives and toasted pita triangles.

  • It was a sad day when I had the same realization about wine and cheese 🥺

@biancalovecraft yep! Although cheese is still good for its nutrient content like protein and other things. Wine, not so much. Maybe a little bit, but the problem with wine is that it enhances the taste of your food (hence why restaurants push wine pairings) and it’s really easy to over consume, which isn’t at all good for your health (or your wallet!)

I accidently spilt Olive oil on my duvet, (don't ask!). It went through the duvet cover, the duvet, the sheet and into the mattress. Washed everything I could. (Obvs not the mattress) and my bed now smells of chips. hahaha - Going to bed these days is a hungry business. All I need is brown sauce! - hahahaha

  • @TheFunCartel I VERY LITERALLY just burst out laughing.. And now my throat hurts!😒

  • @great_pillow08

Perhaps a shot of olive oil will help it

  • @pmvines My personal trainer had me switch to avocado oil over a year ago. It’s been a battle because an “obedient woman”, I will NEVER be but I’ve lost 205 pounds with him, so obviously I’ll “listen” to SOME degree!! The dude’s got the patience of a saint and I’m SO blessed to have met him when I did!!

  • About 1,375 olives are pressed to make 1 liter of olive oil, 8,435 sunflower seeds to make a liter of sunflower oil.
Don't even get me started on baby oil.😉

  • Love olive oil. It’s pretty much the only oil I use.

  • Don't even get me started on baby oil.😉

    😄

@7gem Lol! Oh do share, come on how many babies does it take to make 1 liter of baby oil?

    😜😆🤔😆😜🤔

  • Fun fact...Olive oil reduces the sugar release of the starch when it's digested trigger less of an insulin spike
