Payment and communication apps

edited March 13 in Pro Cuddling

I’ve noticed many pros will indicate that they accept payments via apps like Cashapp, AppleCash, Zelle and Venmo and also indicate they communicate via apps like WhatsApp, Telegram and Snapchat. I did some research and the demographic for all of these apps are Millenials and GenZ. I’m 54 and don’t use any of the above listed apps. I generally pay my pros with cash and text them. For those of you that are GenX or Boomers, do you use the above listed apps. For all of you, what are your thoughts on using these apps? Do you think using these apps can cause any potential roadblocks in booking or communicating if the client doesn’t use them. What are the potential resolutions if the pro insists on using them but the client doesn’t use them, other than no session. Thoughts please.

  • Zelle is usually paid via your bank app. So you should definitely have access to it. I have 3 banking apps and all have a Zelle button.

  • I distrust any pay app that can only be accessed via one's phone. I'm fine using Zelle, Venmo, and Paypal because I can log into them via a desktop or laptop.

In general, I dont put anything on a phone that I wouldnt want police to see as part of a traffic stop.

  • From my (very limited) experience some pros don't want to give out their personal phone number, so they use the apps to communicate, which I completely understand. Not that I have anything to hide, but just googling my phone number shows everything about me. My full name, all addresses I've lived at, my emails, etc. All just from my personal phone number (I'm guessing all of that became public because of website breaches and leaks...?). I could definitely see requiring chat apps as a potential roadblock for clients, though. Even though most of the chat apps are pretty easy to understand, the friction of getting it up and running just to communicate with one single person is a big ask. I would totally understand someone on the older side not wanting to deal with that.

As for payment methods, I would assume they also accept cash and those are just their alternative payment methods? I'm a millenial, so my opinion and experiences are different than yours, but I do not see cash used for much at all these days. Having those other payment methods is probably necessary for a wide range of clients. I personally haven't used cash to pay for things in years :#

Did you know that only about 8% of the world’s money exists as physical cash, while the remaining 92% is digital? Carrying cash comes with risks, it can be lost or stolen, so using electronic payment methods is generally safer and more practical.

I am 51 by the way. Age is just a number.

I’m an Elder Millenial (46). I use Telegram, Session for anonymous chatting, and Discord for anything else.

Only my family and close friends have my actual phone number. I would expect Pros to be similarly cautious with any information tied to their identity.

I’m fine to pay for services digitally. That’s much more convenient to me than stopping to get cash and has a paper trail if there was ever a question of what was or wasn’t sent.

I don’t think these presences represent any kind of barrier to services. It’s just one of many things you should discuss with your Pro when deciding if they are right for you. :)

  • GenX here. Whatsapp is my principal communication method, by a mile. All of my elderly relatives use it and indeed it has been transformatary for my elderly terminally-ill-plus-broken-hip-dad.

Here in the UK direct bank account to bank account transfers on your bank's phone app are free, instant and safe. Everybody uses them for everything, including professional cuddlers.

    Age is just a number

I agree. My point though is that at my age, I have no need for any of those apps and I’m not going to download and use them solely to book a cuddler and I think there are others that feel the same way.

  • I am with @Morpheus. I don't use any apps either but yay for those who do.
I do disagree that age is just a number. I haven't lived this long for nothing.

I’m a Boomer. I have all of those apps listed, I don’t use Snapchat. I use the others for a few online friends and family when I’m overseas. I use only nicknames online and all apps are connected with my Google Voice #. My real name and number aren’t known by anyone here, only family and real life friends.
I don’t give out any personal info that isn’t relevant to the relationship, why would I?
I have all of the payment apps but generally don’t use any of them here. For cuddling I almost always collect cash upfront before session begins. On the very rare occasion that I request a travel fee before leaving for the hotel for a session, it is sent to Cashapp. Or Venmo. I don’t use PayPal or Zelle with strangers. I’m just very private and cautious. I became this way because I did online dating in early 2000s. Never let anyone pick me up at my home unless I was in a relationship. I also never gave out my last name because I believe it’s irrelevant unless creating a legally binding contract.
