Happy St. Patrick's Day! ☘️

For those who are Irish, of Irish descent, or just Irish-ish for the day - Lá Fhéile Pádraig sona daoibh! (Happy Saint Patrick's Day!)

I meant to bake the soda bread Monday, but I put it off and now will have soooo much cooking & baking to do today 😅 Even though it's only me and the housemates this year, it's a tradition I try to keep alive as good food, fresh homemade bread, family & friends are always a good thing. Going to be making corned beef, cabbage, and potatoes (Irish-American), then later this week I'll be making a batch of more traditional colcannon to use up the last of potatoes. Sadly, my beloved Irish cider is out of stock locally, so had to acquiesce and go for a NorCal dry cider. (I'm a bad Cork gal and can't stand Murphy's 😅 or Guinness for that matter)

What do y'all do to celebrate?

    I was in Ireland during St. Patrick’s Day in 2007. They get the day off from school/work and a lot of stores are closed, but as far as celebrating it, they’re not nearly as hyped up about it as Americans are. Over here we’re doing things like wearing all green, having massive celebrations in big cities where they dye the river green, any Irish-themed pub is slammed packed and crazy, etc. I don’t know for sure, but I think it became a modern holiday here in America based on the large wave of Irish communities forming throughout the last 300 years.

    At Disney Springs, there’s an Irish pub restaurant called Raglan Road that’s really good. Has a lot of live performances with Irish dancers and people playing jigs and reels. On St Patrick’s Day they create a block party where you have to pay 20-something dollars to enter but the beer cups are over a liter.

    Not exactly Irish but I was born on St Patrick's Day, so I inadvertently celebrate it while celebrating my birthday lol.

    @disneysamurai oooh! I was studying in Cork then! It was far more a religious/cultural holiday not dissimilar to our thanksgiving, but a bunch of my friends went to Dublin to party haha

    I love the feeling of the commercial element. The colors, mystical element, clovers, culture, the FOOD, but it’s def not the best Holiday to celebrate when you hear the story behind it. So I just looked for 4-Lear clovers on a hike, n found a ton! But I’m just gonna celebrate my newly found (Took a DNA test recently
    ) heritage the rest of the week.

    @MermaidsCuddles sticky toffee pudding is by far the superior Irish dessert to bread pudding. Don't get me wrong, I love bread pudding and it's much easier to make, but zomg if I can find a place that has sticky toffee pudding I'm over the moon.
