Things that you love

edited March 15 in General

If someone asked you to list all of the things that you love. How many would you list before you say yourself?…

This quote popped up on my fb feed. It really made me think wow why we put zillion things above us and lean to please people draining ourself.

  • Because we’re taught that it’s better to give than to receive- even to ourselves!

  • Wow!! Never thought about this at all… 🫣

  • Ouch. I would never even think to list myself. Hang on, I gotta schedule with my counselor... 😆 Childhood neglect and I have some work to do.

  • Perhaps the most suitable combination is when selfless people team up … I’ve been trying to bring myself up in the list…

Great topic. I was recently reading Brenè Brown's "The Gifts of Imperfection" and this is one part of how she defines love (emphasis mine):

Love is not something we give or get; it is something that we nurture and grow, a connection that can only be cultivated between two people when it exists within each one of them–we can only love others as much as we love ourselves.

Having been always taught that "love is sacrifice" means that it's really hard to see myself as worthy of that self-love (it usually feels selfish). I hope we can all find compassion for ourselves and learn to grow in self-love more and more, seems like a big part of living a fuller life.

  • Recently, I've been shopping around for a meaningful piece of jewelry, probably a ring, as a promise to myself - to always remember that I deserve to give myself the same love and care I give to others. That I'm stronger and more resilient than I tend to believe. That even when things feel hard and like I've stagnated, I'm still making progress even if it's not perfect.

I've been gradually relearning that self care isn't only an act of self love, but also a morally neutral care task for existing in a human body. We brush our teeth, comb our hair, wash our bodies, teach our minds, and take care of our environments all as basic maintenance - taking care of our emotional needs is no different.

  • I'm a true believer of loving yourself before loving others. You have to take care of yourself first and foremost.

That said....I love the smell of wet sidewalk after it rains. It makes me reminisce of my childhood.

I love the vanilla scent of Ponderosa Pine bark. I just found out about that last year.

I love taking mind boggling journeys with shrooms. That's self maintenance at it's best.

I love 2000s punk rock/pop punk music. It embodies all the emotions of my punk ass spirit.

I love taking a "dip" or swim in ice cold bodies of water. Good thing that I live in Colorado. It definitely keeps you young.

I love dill pickle peanut butter sandwiches. Think that's weird?? It originated in the 1930s of the Great Depression because it was a budget friendly meal.

I've always loved insects and nature since I was 4 or 5. When I go on nature walks or hikes with friends and family, I point out anything that moves or that I find

Great list! You're brave with the cold plunges! I got addicted to swimming in a mountain river a couple years ago - it's so enthralling! I can't think of anything else when I'm in there. But I did it in the summer and it was still so cold thanks to glacier melt-off! I can't imagine doing it in cold weather.

  • @Goonie4life I am seeing more of why we hit it off at the Denver Meet and Greet. Besides cleaning my clock at cards! Dill pickle peanut butter sandwiches are the bomb. I was introduced to them by grandmother who lived through the Depression.
