HOWEVER
Imagine being an empath on a train or bus… walking down a crowded street… sitting in a busy restaurant…
DEPLETING NERVE-RACKING OVERWHELMING HEARTBREAKING SOUL SUCKING EXHAUSTING
Gender identity should be taken into account. Women generally experience an onslaught of beggars wanting alllllll sorts of things from us. Doesn’t matter how we say no or if we ignore, danger is frequently a factor. Imagine that being your baseline. Would you make eye contact with a bunch of strangers??
Men who keep to themselves in public are unsung heroes. In large cities they know that. Men giving women space is a gesture of respect and to accommodate our anxieties regarding safety. Puts us at ease. 🤐🏆🧘🏻♀️
Large cities aren’t ONE culture. They’re full of MANY MANY MANY cultures. Depending on the neighborhood you might not even have a language in common with the person you’re sitting next to. Do you know how to avoid unintentionally offending folks regardless of their cultural background? Me neither. In those situations it’s best just to not initiate conversation. Plus some cultures are STRONGLY opposed to mixed gender interactions outside of very specific contexts. Almost moved to Sheepshead Bay for THAT privilege. 🚶🏻♂️🇮🇱👸🏻
