It seems like if someone is being a problem, reporting them only gets other people punished. Is this everywhere, or just for certain threads?
Also, is there a trustworthy mod I could talk to about this?

First, to be clear, I did not read the thread you infer. Thus, in general, my opinion is...
Flagging can be perfectly useful, or useless, depending on which mod responds, what mood they're in, what their biases are... It's not supposed to be that way, but they're only human, and it's simply reality. Some do an excellent job of staying unbiased and keeping their emotions out of it.
I understand and had a similar situation @IronicMaiden.
One of the other bad parts of that was someone getting banned for responding poorly to hurtful remarks invalidating her life when she's already struggling and living in a place hostile to her existence. Maybe she should have received a timeout for that, but a ban was unwarranted. I'd hoped to be able to talk to her so maybe she feels less alone, but that's no longer possible thanks to overly aggressive moderation. I hope she's okay despite the clusterfuck here. And of course the guilty party faced no consequences.
@IronicMaiden I read that thread and was disappointed on how it ended as well, I have a daughter who is part of that community . A lot of people were hurt that shouldn't have been. I don't know why it wasn't cleaned up really inorder to maintain its intended spirit, sometimes a little moderation isn't such a bad thing.
What’s more worrisome is the person in question teaches or takes care of kids. I can only imagine how unaccepting they are towards the ones that need help or support.
I guess my point was given the nature of this site or at least how I perceive it anyways , i.e. a community of cuddlers who are welcoming and inclusive, the original post in question should have simply and quietly been removed. It was just a post looking for a little love and recognition in honarance(I know thats not a word) of a day. If you don't want to do that ignore the topic, instead it forced people into an unnecessary heated debate, with some being banned it seems. If the same post was posted in a christian or rightwing themed news group, yeah for sure expect some blowback.
I have read the person in questions other posts and profile page, they seem like a reasonable person. I'm sure if I came across them in a grocery store with my daughter they would just go about there business in a non-judgmental manner. In regards to there childcare business, if you advertise it as christian based.... There seems to be demand for that type of education, there is lots of those schools where I live too.

btw I am a fan of Iron Maiden as well, I never miss a show the production is outstanding , and Edmonton is a regular tour stop for them

@paul3333 I'm not sure what you're trying to say. No matter what the topic is, one person should not be able to get the thread locked or removed. If someone had started a happy easter thread and I behaved in that the way she did in the other thread, I would be timed out. I wouldn't be able to get the thread locked by continually insisting that I'm right and everyone else is wrong, and refusing to see anything that says otherwise. Maybe the difference is there's no mods opposed to easter.
I've also seen some of her contributions in other threads. They are unfortunately in line with what happened here.
@SpicyNSweet I appreciate that. I hope it helped mitigate some of the damage done here. I hate to think of what steps she'll feel forced into next.
I don't think some mods realize they’re being biased. They only have a short amount of time to manage the masses, so they don’t really get the chance to reflect on it. I’d like to assume they get together and reflect on what would have been the best course of action. Hopefully a clear rule comes out of this. One that says topics meant to celebrate or bring awareness, which don’t affect anyone else’s quality of life, aren’t allowed to be up for discussion in that specific thread. There are other threads for that or that person can simply create a new one to express their opinions. So I don’t think it was ill-intended of the mods.
@IronicMaiden my thoughts as well 💔 I find it utterly heartbreaking that some people can't bring themselves to treat others with compassion and keep an open mind regarding issues they don't understand.
@BellaAine I could believe that if it weren't multiple actions over several days, and all actions were done to protect the person being a problem rather than everyone else in the thread.
And I'm certainly not accusing all mods of anything.
