If you're talking about a cuddle meet up, sometimes just sitting together, meditating, breathing, even just holding hands can be a nice way to get grounded and establish presence and trust with each other. Before cuddling.
In a culture full of do lists and great expectations, just being present can be the fuel to get the conversation going. Try it.

If a public meet-up, I chat and get to know them like I would anyone. Cuddling doesn't even have to factor into conversation. I want to know how their day has been, what kind of coffee or tea they like, chat about pets, family, travel, etc.
If you're talking about a cuddle, the first few minutes should ideally involve consent questions as you settle in with each other. "Would you like to sit or lay down? Do you like holding hands? I love hard scratches...some people like it gentle, or only back rubs, how about you? Is it okay if I wrap my arm around your waist? Do you like having your face caressed? You can play with my hair, but please leave the bangs alone. Is your arm falling asleep?" 😄

The rare times when they don't know how to continue the conversation, I just ask "So how do you like to be cuddled?" Or "What have your past experiences been like?"

A lot of my cuddles start with, "how did you get into this?" And then I ask the same to the pro. Really cool to see two usually diff stories that led us here.

I often start with "Would you like some tea?" Which then gets the followup question, "What kind?"
Try a wet Willie, that drives them crazy and have them eating out of your cereal bowl

I like to get a good hug in first, make some eye contact… (hold the energy for a min and push out all the yuck energy from them) figure out if the lighting and temperature is ok while setting up shop aka getting comfortable and putting my stuff down- ask them how their day was, allow them to ease up some … play some music… talk a little See how they’re feeling and if all is well figure out what position they want to try first (usually head on chest side hug from me) seems to be the one that’s the go-to 💛
I prefer a lengthy hug, some meditation, breathing exercises, eye gazing, hand holding, sitting back-to-back, or, taking a page from the film, "Stripes," a game of "Force Field."
Ask, "If you had to be a kind of cooked potato, what kind would you be?"

But hey, "awkward" is relative. Not sure what "bi versa" is all about, though. I know you can go straight forward, or gaily and merrily meander... I guess bi versa is a thing I wasn't aware of until now.
