Masters of the Universe

Now I'll admit I'm not the biggest fan of Masters of the Universe franchise like my uncle is but I enjoyed the recent live action movie quite a bit! I saw it last night with my uncle (who grew up on the 80s cartoon) and my siblings and we all had a great time. I think my uncle enjoyed it more than anyone since there apparently was a lot of nostalgia in there and I enjoyed the humor. I have watched a little bit of the cartoon here and there and saw clips from newer versions of Master of the universe franchise, as well as really enjoyed the comedic bits showcasing Skeletor and other characters in Robot Chicken.
There's also a band that goes by the name "Skelator" yes with an A instead of E (probably for copyright reasons?) that I enjoy listening to quite a lot. They have some songs that reference characters from the Masters of the Universe as well as other subjects such as the anime Akira, Fist of the North Star, The Highlander, Odin, Thor, and Loki, Elric: The Dragon Prince, and other subjects.

But back to the movie... Has anyone else seen the new movie? Any thoughts? I was surprised at Jard Leto's performance after having been disappointed with Morbius and Joker. I thought he played a good Skeletor.

  • I never saw any of the cartoon so I know very little outside of the random Robot Chicken reference. I'll probably see the movie in a matinee in a week or two. Glad you enjoyed it!

I watched He-Man as a kid back when they were still airing reruns on USA Network. My sister had a bunch of He-Man and She-Ra toys including a Snake Mountain playset. I might go see it or wait for it to come on streaming. I remember Orco was one of my favorite characters.

  • I thought it was really good

  • I'm not sure how it could surpass the original with Dolph Lundgren, Courtney Cox and Billy Barty. I'm glad you enjoyed it

  • Dolph had a cameo that I thought was cool!

  • We watched it last weekend, my son and I. 👍

I enjoyed it, I liked that Skeletor looked exactly like Skeletor (from the cartoon 😊) yet sounded like Frank Lagella's portrayal from the original live action film from the 80s. Lol 😆

It was cool to see Dolph as a cameo too, I recalled reading somewhere that he was "embarrassed" by the original film. Lol 😆

Maybe because it flopped in the theaters back then, clearly he has gotten over his embarrassment now. 😁👍

  • Jared Leto did a good job! 👍

And you know what, I say he did a good job as Joker in Suicide Squad too! 😁

That's right, Leto's Joker meshed well with Robie's version of Harley Quinn in that movie.
    🤡💜

  • I hope this one doesn't put the movie house into bankruptcy

  • Lol! 🤣

I am remembering when we approached the concession stand to pay for tickets....

I politely said the clerk, "Two for He-Man, please!"

    😆😆😆😆

Forgetting that the actual movie title is called Masters Of The Universe. 😁
