Thought I'd share with the forum a tradition we have in indian culture, rakhri an annual tradition where sisters, cousins celebrate a bond with their brothers. It's an acknowledgement of everything a sister does for their brother throughout the year, ironing a shirt, cooking a meal, etc.
Sister will bring a sweet normally and and tie a decorative bracelet around her brothers wrist and that brother would give her some money, these days normaly 50-100$. Less when younger but it's not about the money it's just a nice thing to do to show a sister/cousin that they are appreciated and loved.
This year it was this past friday, was on the road and am looking forward to tomorrow when I get home and get my Rakhri tied on my hand. When I was younger I used to think it was kind of silly but I do really look forward to it. My sister has been waiting for me to get home.
