Energetic protection & grounding

A comment on another thread got me thinking about this, and rather than derail that post I thought I’d start a new one.

For those of us who believe we can pick up on other people’s energy, cuddling can be a pretty strong exchange… whether you're the host or the guest.

What do you do before or after cuddling to protect, ground, or clear your energy? White light, prayer, crystals, incense, meditation, opening windows, showering, grounding… whatever works for you.

And even if you don’t look at it spiritually, how do you mentally or emotionally reset afterward?

Would love to hear from everyone 🫂

  • This is a great topic! Following 💖

  • Showering, playing some ocean spa music maybe

  • For me, I usually put some protection around myself beforehand. I’ll often have a crystal in my bag or somewhere near me, and I set an intention in my mind for the cuddle and how I want the energy around it to feel.

Afterwards, if it was an especially emotionally or energetically draining cuddle, I’ll shower with a body wash that has salt in it and actually visualize washing away anything I may have energetically picked up or carried from the experience that does me no good to hold onto.

I’m definitely curious what everyone else does too, because I’m always open to adding new little rituals to my toolbox. I know that now that I'm hosting more I'd like to find more ways to keep my personal space clear. ✨🫂

  • Generally, I just ground and center, and am constantly testing (or perhaps tasting) the other person's energy and adjusting my own accordingly. I usually "see" energy in textures and musical tones. Aphantasia makes it hard to visualize energy as a color, but not impossible. It's more of a secondary aspect.

I'll also imbue energy into various objects, including the room boundaries (floor, walls, ceiling). Sometimes into a picture hanging on the wall, depending on what the picture is. Not the bed or linens, though. I'm not sure why. I just know I feel resistance to the idea, that it's a bad idea.

  • I have all sorts of stuff— I have a metaphysical shop. I have some special incense I burn. If it’s heavy energy, radionics.

  • All people should learn to ground and protect themselves. But especially service workers. Any type of therapist whether it is massage, cuddling, talk therapists... or the caretakers like nurses and aides... Our desire to help and to heal can absolutely pick up unwanted negative things from the clients.

I use some methods on a daily basis, and add a little extra as needed. I always have a sphere or bubble of protection around me. Send negativity into the ground to dissipate or into a flame like a candle or the sun to burn up. Your space can be cleansed with sunshine, bells, or sage. You can also take a shower and imagine anything unwanted or that is not yours to keep, being washed down the drain.

    Great post.

    BEFORE?
As far as the energy of my space I always do a super duper house clean/prep to ensure my environment is one that my guests instantly feel attracted to. This includes but is not limited to how it looks and smells, my greatest and swoftest sheets, food and perfectly curated music upon entry. I treat as if preparing for a great in home date and enjoy offering the full shebang..

As far as myself? I have an abundance of good warm energy I am always eager to share so I am always in a give mode, and feel not the need to protect.

    AFTER?
That one’s a different story. This one is bifurcated in 2 totally different directions, both good and bad (or should I say sad).

Good in the way that I am happy, fulfilled and grateful to have had the time to meet someone new and hopefully share time and connection with someone amazing…

The sad. Well this one has come up for me a lot so I wrote a poem that encapsulates it all and posted it in my profile. Here’s a screenshot of it. I have shared this on the discussion board a few times before when this kind of discussion has come up so please forgive me if you’re seeing it again.

  • I don’t have a standard pre or post cuddle routine but for me the ultimate grounding and energy “reset” is a reiki session followed by a float in total darkness and silence. I did that yesterday and I feel incredible today.

@JohnR1972 Ohhh one of my favorite things to do is float. I'll float and listen to baking frequency music or a guided meditation. I have always wanted to try the Dark salt water chambers. Havent had an opportunity to do so yet. When you do it, how many days after do you feel a difference?

  • @WestsideMarc that's a great routine... Hosting is fairly new to me especially in my own space. I'm working in building a lil cuddle sanctuary. But I also have music started in the sitting room when they come in the door, that carries into the bedroom.
I remember reading your poem before .. I'm glad you shared it again for new eyes to see it. I think it's really great very expressive.

  • @SwtCara you're absolutely right about service workers specifically. I was a nanny for 25buears and n worked as a medical assistant and home healthcare worker and as a house manager.. I. Addition to pro cuddler now. And yes I wish I knew about energy work and grounding and cleansing space when I was younger.

  • @MindTherapy is your shop online? I'd love to check it out.

  • @IronicMaiden that's so good that you go with your instincts when feeling that resistance. It's intriguing though I wonder why those particular objects.

  • @disneysamurai is that something you do before or after a session or maybe both?

  • Love this topic.
I’m an Apache Native healer but I’m also a dark intuitive empath.
I make all my own skin care etc from oils, butters and herbs so everything is made with intention.

Shower before, use my products, and sage.
When I get home shower is a must. Cleansing of any energy that does not belong to me because as an empath I tend to absorb others energy. I usually have a candle lit with healing and protection herbs.

When I need to ground I put my feet in the grass and visualize myself being connected to the roots of a big willow tree along with my ancestors surrounding me by the other extended roots.
This calms me and gives me strength.
But this is a vision I was given. Not sure if it would work for everyone.
When I need an extra boost I go see my shaman and she provides extra strength and protection through smoke and prayer.
    🪶🪶🪶🪶🪶🪶🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱♥️

  • @MeltMyWay Because they're common and can be in the room unobtrusively.

  • I always meditate and pray for protection prior to a cuddle session. I ask that any negative energy be removed. I also bathe before and after ( then mediate again ) I also try to limit my clients to one per day.

  • @TheLivingFlame I get that. 3 is my limit for a 24 hour period even if spread over 2 days and it's honestly too much. It takes me a day or two to recoup from 3 that close together. just from the energetic aspect. I only have 3 in a day once maybe twice a month though and I make sure to have nothing going on the following day. If I'm traveling that rule goes out the window and I try to keep the last 2 days of my trip free if any cuddles sink can relax and ground before returning home.
