I would be interested to take a poll on how many initial messages ladies received from separate men on their first three (3) days after signing up on the site.
Poll has been updated to allow people to just see the results. [Mark]
Good idea, @mmpacom. I like this. I can't legitimately vote (on account of not being a lady), but I like it! Data-gathering is good.
Since I cannot vote, can you share your response data here after sufficient collection?
-this part edited because I don't want to confuse readers further down-
And, @creedhands, I hope it will be automatic, but who knows ?
@mmpacom: Well, I didn't vote. The poll's still sitting up there waiting for me to fill it out (which I'm not gonna do). So maybe some women are voting already, but not mentioning it in the thread proper?
Perhaps - if so, a "20-100" right off the bat - wow❗
That's amazing. Yeah, I didn't get that many. Actually.... [goes to check]
Yeah, I didn't get any. I received my first message a year after I joined. I sent plenty! But my first somebody-else-making-first-contact message was in 2016, a full thirteen months after I signed up.
I will be interested to hear the story from someone who puts down ">100"
Seriously, message me about the trial-by-ordeal ?
Come to think of it, a "20-100" story has GOT to be worth reading, no?
@mmpacom: Hmm. Well, it depends on how it's told. A good writer can make the most ordinary things interesting.
An average writer might say, "I signed up for the site, wrote up a quick profile, posted one picture, and went to work. When I checked my email after work I had 10 new messages. I couldn't deal with it, so I went to bed. When I woke up, I had 23 unread messages. I couldn't deal with it. By the end of three days, I had 46 new messages and decided to delete my profile. I only came back because the memories faded."
A poor writer might just say "I signed up and got 50 messages in 3 days," which isn't very interesting. I mean, we already know that. The only new information is the exact number of messages; not terribly exciting.
Just ask @respectful he knows everything no need for a poll
@pmvines: Ha! The god of wisdom and knowledge strikes again. How about it, O Divine @respectful? Do you have that data? (If you do I may actually have to build a temple, or at least a little online shrine.)
Most of my first response folks are now banned or deleted.. That's got to be a common thread.
We have our first "100+" ❗ ?
And on that note, a girl who messaged me got banned in like 3 hours: how does that happen?
@mmpacom there are a few reasons. Old discussion but should give you some context.

Thanks. I just read it. Ah the tangled web we weave ...
@pmvines & @darrenwalker "Do you have that data?"
Unfortunately no, I only have access to public data ... no idea about message frequencies.
@mmpacom Could you share the results when they're all in?
(A general tip for people creating polls: include an option like "I'm not actually voting" so people can get the results without having to participate).
@respectful
Great idea about "no response" - never thought of it
Maybe I will summarize every so often - is that what you mean?
@respectful: You mean you aren't all-knowing? Well, that's a relief. (It also means I don't have to build that shrine.) Good tip for poll-makers, by the way! I'll have to try and remember that if I ever make one.
OK, per @respectful's idea:
Out of 15 votes so far: 1. 1-5. 46.7% 2. 6-20. 33.3% 3. 21-100. 13.3% 4. >100. 6.7% (❗)
@mmpacom Interesting stuff - thank you. So the average is probably more than 20 messages in the first three days, sometimes a lot more.
"Maybe I will summarize every so often - is that what you mean?"
Yep, perfect.
Hmm, I suspect these poll results are tainted by male members clicking on anything to have a peak. Ideally we'd have a 5th option, "I'm not applicable. Show me the results."
@mark Could it be worth adding a "just show me the results" button to the interface for polls?
@Mark
On "n/a", agreed. See discussion above
On trolling poll results, I would suspect a fake response from males would try to make the impression "Everything is wunderbar!"
It would be foolish to try to leave the impression "We (girls) are all p*****-off at this experience" which is how I interpret the results
So the real situation is probably even worse than the results indicate
Altho that may a bit of hyperbole
Unfortunately, it looks like it doesn't let me change a poll once it starts
Maybe I should start a new poll with that option? Would save a lot of effort
@respectful It's a third-party plugin so I'm not sure it's worth it. Maybe. In the meantime, we can do it Twitter style and have it as a poll option.
I quite like the idea of each poll owner having the choice of whether offering that option makes sense for that specific poll. In this case I think it does but for other cases, the issue of having the results influence someone before they themselves vote might be an issue.
@mmpacom Yes, deleting and re-adding might make sense. Just be aware, this poll functionality is a little buggy so can't be certain it will work.
Ok, I am just going to bite the bullet and start a new discussion with a improved poll
@mmpacom I've updated this topic with the new poll.
To remove a poll, you simply save your original post without the poll box ticked. Then you can add it again. However, your ability to edit your post might have expired so have done this for you. Hopefully it works... as you just discovered, it's buggy.
EDIT: I just mistakenly removed the poll by adding the mod notice. It's back again.
Thanks a lot, much better and less confusing - I'll be amazed if there are any ">250" responses
@mmpacom I'd be curious. Handling just the 12 when I first joined was a but much. I couldn't function if it was in the 200s! I would have quit that day!
